Hi everyone!! 🤗

For this week, we are focusing on drawing different types of flowers and exploring how you can simplify them 🌸

This time, we will create a sketchbook page filled with flowers. Again, playing with different shapes, sizes, and ways of drawing them. After this you will have a leaf and a “flower library” that you can use in future illustrations!

I created my own sketchbook page for this week: some simple flower shapes and some more detailed and difficult ones.

You will find my step-by-step process, base layers, and final illustrations below, together with the materials I used 🥰

Plus! some extra tips on how to draw and simplify your flowers!

Tips for drawing flowers 🌸

Think in simple shapes instead of details. Just as leaves, flowers don’t have to be complicated to look good! Here are some tips:

Begin with a basic shape (circle(s), oval(s), soft petal shapes)

Start from the center of the flower and build the petals around it

Don’t add too many details. A few lines and shapes can already suggest texture!

Try simplifying petals into playful shapes instead of copying them perfectly

Brush pen layer

I used the following Tombow brush pens as a base layer:

Tombow 126 (Light olive)

Tombow 553 (Mist purple)

Tombow 772 (Dusty rose)

Tombow 912 (Pale Cherry)

Tombow 991 (Light Ocre)

Tombow 020 (Peach)

Pencil layer

For the second layer, I used the following Faber-Castell Pencils:

Faber-Castell 278 (Chrome Oxide Green)

Faber-Castell 157 (Dark Indigo)

Faber-Castell 188 (Sanguine)

Faber-Castell 217 (Middle Cadmium Red)

Faber-Castell 226 (Alizarin Crimson)

Faber-Castell 108 (Dark Cadmium Yellow)

Faber-Castell 133 (Magenta)

I wish you all lots of fun with this week's reference, and don't hesitate to ask me any questions or show your illustrations in the group chat 🤗
