Tropical Botanical Gardens π΄πΊπ΅ (Step-by-step guide - Week 21) (Patreon)
Content
Hi everyone!! π€
For this week, we are focusing on drawing tropical botanical garden scenes β¨
I created two illustrations based on this week's references! They were challenging, but also lots of fun! I recommend to draw loosely and playfully with these, don't try to copy the reference perfectly!
You will find my base layers and final illustrations below, together with the materials I used π₯°
Page 1
I used the following Tombow brush pens as a base layer:
Tombow 126 (Light olive)
Tombow 133 (Chartreuse, Light green)
Tombow 553 (Mist purple)
Tombow 772 (Dusty rose)
Tombow 912 (Pale Cherry)
Tombow 991 (Light Ocre)
Tombow 020 (Peach)
Start by drawing the plants and flowers in the front and slowly added more to the background! I chose to first draw some flowers, so I had an idea of what my composition would be. Then I decided to fill in the white spaces between the leaves later, after adding the second layer with pencils.
For the second layer, I used the following Faber-Castell Pencils:
Faber-Castell 188 (Sanguine)
Faber-Castell 226 (Alizarin Crimson)
Faber-Castell 278 (Chrome Oxide Green)
Faber-Castell 108 (Dark Cadmium Yellow)
After I finished the second layer, I filled the white spaces with Tombow light olive, and filled it with Faber-Castell chrome oxide green to add more contrast and depth!

Ecoline 374 (Pink Beige)
In this scene I used the same approach, first drawing the main subjects, and later fill in the background. This time I tried to add the background before adding the pencil layer.

Faber-Castell 283 (Burnt Siena)
I wish you all lots of fun with this week's reference, and don't hesitate to ask me any questions or show your illustrations in the group chat π€
