Blog Post: Q&A ππΈβοΈ (Frequently asked questions) (Patreon)
Content
Hi everyone!
For this month's blog post I decided to do a little Q&A with frequently asked questions! Hope you like them and please don't hesitate to ask other questions in the comments below. I'd love to answer them! π
Which sketchbooks do I use?
I love to use the sketchbooks of Royal Talens, they are in various sizes available, not too pricey and the paper is just perfect for the materials I use π€
I always buy them in my local art store and currently I mostly use the little square sized sketchbooks, but last month I also bought a bigger landscape sketchbook, so I'm very excited to start drawing in that one as well π
Here are some links to my favorite colors:
New Yellow 21x14,8cm Sketchbook
Bold Pink 12x12cm Sketchbook (Bit more pricey)
How do I choose my references?
I mostly search on Pinterest for pretty references! I love creating different boards for different subjects, and I also have one big inspiration board where I can just put anything I love. I use keywords like:
House in the middle of nowhere
Whimsical Flowers
Dreamy landscape
Whimsical landscape
Forest cottage
How long does one illustration take?
Well this is a good question, because many people think that it takes me hours to create one illustration, but no, most of the time I finish one in half an hour. I am not a person with lots of patience (adhd ππΌββοΈ), so over the years I learned that it doesn't matter how big the drawing or illustration is, it's more important that you have fun. And if a large illustration doesn't make you happy, why not creating lots of smaller ones? π
Which colored pencil do I use the most?
I would definitely say Chrome Oxide Green and Dark Indigo.
I love to draw nature and nature always has some green in it! I love to combine it with light olive or chartreuse, light green to create different effects π€ Dark Indigo is perfect for creating extra depth anywhere!
Why don't I make a sketch first?
Like I said before, I don't have lots of patience. Other than that, I really love to create illustrations more freely. When I don't make a sketch first, it allows me to be less perfectionistic and I can make choices along the way. Sometimes I do make a sketch when the composition is too hard to do it without one.
What is my favorite illustration I've ever made?
If I had to choose, these three would definitely be my favorites. The first one I created this year, and the last two, I created when I just had started to draw in this style a few years ago!
I really love how the colors work together in these illustrations. Instead of focusing on adding lots of tiny details, I focused on creating depth, contrast and a nice balance of lots of different colors. Looking back at them, I feel like they capture exactly the kind of whimsical landscapes I love to create. π₯°
Hope you liked to read this little Q&A! Thank you for being here and have a wonderful rest of your day! π€
