Hi!! ๐Ÿค—

Two different styles this week! The left one is a bit more soft and the right one has more texture and lifework. Both are great for whimsical drawings, so I thought it would be fun to show you both ways! ๐Ÿค—

You will find my tips & step by step instructions from base layer to final illustrations below, together with the materials I used!

Tips

Here are some tips for this month's references:

Draw your own version of the references: Use the reference as an idea, and create your own illustrations by adding an extra flowers, skipping a flower, adding an extra leaf, etc. Just play with it and have fun!

Use more colors than usual: Most of the time I try to draw with a limited color palette, but sometimes it's so much fun to use many colors in one illustration! It makes the illustration more whimsical as well ๐Ÿฅฐ

Keep the background soft: The grass, greenery or flowers in the background don't need details, keep them soft and blurry!

Create depth: When you think you are finished, look a second time at your illustration and see if there is enough depth in it. You can always add more by using Dark Indigo!

Enjoy the imperfections: Loose illustrations look more lively because they're not too perfect. Focus on capturing the feeling and the colors of the place rather than every tiny detail.

Cute little house

I used the following Brush pens as a base layer:

Tombow 126 (Light olive)

Tombow 133 (Chartreuse, Light green)

Tombow 991 (Light Ocre)

Tombow 772 (Dusty rose)

Tombow 451 (Sky Blue)

Tombow 020 (Peach)

Tombow 912 (Pale Cherry)

Start with the rooftop with light ochre. This makes it easier to get the right proportions! Use Pale Cherry for the chimneys. Draw the windows and door with Sky Blue. Then start with Light Olive to draw the trees and greenery. Fill it up with some colors: Peach, Dusty Rose, Light Green. Add Peach in the front to get a good base layer.

For the second layer, I used the following colored pencils:

Faber-Castell 157 (Dark Indigo)

Faber-Castell 278 (Chrome Oxide Green)

Faber-Castell 283 (Burnt Siena)

Faber-Castell 217 (Middle Cadmium Red)

Faber-Castell 133 (Magenta)

Faber-Castell 108 (Dark Cadmium Yellow)

Use Burnt Siena for the rooftop and chimneys. Try to add some shading to the rooftop as well. Use Dark Indigo to add some tiny windows and details to the door and windows. Use Chrome Oxide Green for the greenery and add some flowers with Magenta and Dark Cadmium Yellow.

Blue wooden flower fence

I used the following Brush pens as a base layer:

Tombow 126 (Light olive)

Tombow 133 (Chartreuse, Light green)

Tombow 553 (Mist purple)

Tombow 912 (Pale Cherry)

First, draw the leaves with Light Olive and Light Green. Add the flowers with Pale Cherry. Then draw the fence with Mist Purple.

For the second layer, I used the following colored pencils:

Faber-Castell 157 (Dark Indigo)

Faber-Castell 278 (Chrome Oxide Green)

Faber-Castell 188 (Sanguine)

For the second layer, I only used three colors. Start by drawing the flowers with Sanguine, add a little dot in the middle to give them a core. Then draw the leaves with Chrome Oxide Green. (Draw irregular circles), some also with a dot in the middle. Then draw the fence with Dark Indigo and finish the drawing by adding shading behind the fence with Chrome Oxide Green.

Wishing you all lots of fun with this week's references! Don't hesitate to ask me any questions or to show your illustrations in the group chat ๐Ÿค—
