Hi!! πŸ€—

In this post I will talk you through the two steps of creating an illustration with brush pens & pencils based on this week's references πŸ₯°

You will find my tips from base layer to final illustrations below, together with the colors & materials I used!

Tips

Here are some tips for this month's references:

Use more colors dan usual: Autumn is a colorful month with lots of contrast, so keep that in mind when choosing your colors 😊

Try to simplify the references: This month I want to focus on drawing quicker by simplifying the references and our illustrations.

Enjoy imperfections: Nature is all about imperfections, you don't have to copy the references, make your own version of them πŸ₯°

Pink & Purple Mushrooms

I used the following Brush pens as a base layer:

Tombow 133 (Chartreuse, Light green)

Tombow 603 (Periwinkle)

Tombow 772 (Dusty rose)

The heads of the mushrooms are all the same shape, but they slightly differ from each other in size and detail. Add some green to finish off the illustration with a nice composition. I used Periwinkle to give all the mushrooms a purple glow on the top.

For the second layer, I used the following colored pencils:

Faber-Castell 157 (Dark Indigo)

Faber-Castell 278 (Chrome Oxide Green)

Faber-Castell 226 (Alizarin Crimson)

Faber-Castell 133 (Magenta)

Start with Alizarin Crimson to get the overall details in place. Use Magenta to add a purple tone on the tops. Use Dark Indigo to add some extra depth and shading. For the moss: just add some scribbles with Chrome Oxide Green.

Two yellow mushrooms

I used the following Brush pens as a base layer:

Tombow 126 (Light olive)

Tombow 991 (Light Ocre)

Tombow 912 (Pale Cherry)

Tombow 020 (Peach)

These mushrooms have a wider shape. The two biggest ones have the same size, but the little one is much smaller. Use Light Ocre for the Mushrooms, Peach for the little snails, Light Olive for the moss and Pale Cherry for the brown parts in the moss.

For the second layer, I used the following colored pencils:

Faber-Castell 157 (Dark Indigo)

Faber-Castell 278 (Chrome Oxide Green)

Faber-Castell 283 (Burnt Siena)

Faber-Castell 188 (Sanguine)

The mushrooms have a more orange top, which you can create with Sanguine. Also add some details with Sanguine. Use Burnt Siena to create more depth, shading and details. You can use this same color for the snails looking at each other. Use Chrome Oxide Green and Burnt Siena for the moss. Press hard on the paper and let the Light Olive Base Layer lightly shine through.

I love drawing these two mushroom illustrations! I hop you have lots of fun with these references as well! πŸ₯°

And as always, don't hesitate to ask me any questions or to show your illustrations in the group chat πŸ€—
