Hi everyone!! π€
In this post I will talk you through the two steps of creating an illustration with brush pens & pencils based on this week's references π₯°
You will find my tips from base layer to final illustrations below, together with the colors & materials I used!
Good to know! The tree illustration, will also be the one for the worksheet this week π
Tips
Here are some tips for this month's references:
Use more colors dan usual: Autumn is a colorful month with lots of contrast, so keep that in mind when choosing your colors π
Try to simplify the references: This month I want to focus on drawing quicker by simplifying the references and our illustrations.
Enjoy imperfections: Nature is all about imperfections, you don't have to copy the references, make your own version of them π₯°
Looking up πβ¨
I used the following Brush pens as a base layer:
Tombow 126 (Light olive)
Ecoline 374 (Pink Beige)
Tombow 133 (Chartreuse, Light green)
Tombow 020 (Peach)
Tombow 991 (Light Ocre)
Tombow 912 (Pale Cherry)
Tombow 451 (Sky Blue)
This illustration is all about choosing the right colors for the base layer, so you only have to add a view details with pencil. Try to look at the reference with squeezed eyes, so you can see where to put which color.
For the second layer, I used the following colored pencils:
Faber-Castell 157 (Dark Indigo)
Faber-Castell 283 (Burnt Siena)
Faber-Castell 278 (Chrome Oxide Green)
Faber-Castell 188 (Sanguine)
Faber-Castell 108 (Dark Cadmium Yellow)
Faber-Castell 217 (Middle Cadmium Red)
First, draw the branches of the trees with Burnt Siena before you add details to the leaves.
After drawing the branches, you can use the other colors to add some scribbles to make the suggestion of leaves. Don't add too many scribbles, because if you look at the reference, the leaves are not that detailed because most of them are too far away. You can add some extra depth and contrast by using Dark Indigo for the branches.
Autumn Tree πβ¨
I used the following Brush pens as a base layer:
Tombow 126 (Light olive)
Ecoline 374 (Pink Beige)
Tombow 133 (Chartreuse, Light green)
Tombow 991 (Light Ocre)
Tombow 912 (Pale Cherry)
Start with the trunk and branches of the tree, then add all the leaves around it. If you want to, you can add a little grass of the hill with some extra details and textures.
For the second layer, I used the following colored pencils:
Faber-Castell 283 (Burnt Siena)
Faber-Castell 278 (Chrome Oxide Green)
Faber-Castell 188 (Sanguine)
For this one, you only need 3 colors. Also you can just add a few scribbles, because the most of the illustration was already done with the brush pens.
Hope you have fun with these! And as always, don't hesitate to ask me any questions or to show your illustrations in the group chat! π€
