Meet Myridia, a feisty gill-breathing shark who must wear a special apparatus that circulates oxygenated water and helps her vocalize when on land.

Why leave the sea, then? She's fascinated by land dwellers and finds them exotic. They feel the same way about her.

I've wanted to have aquatic, gilled characters for a while (all the way back to the Art CD days, which had a few) but the idea went dormant for a long time. I've seen characters with gills before, but they seem to breathe normally on land or in water. A barrier blocking sentient land and water creatures is an interesting concept to me- what if one side wanted to go to the other side? Lung bois can put on scuba gear, but what about gill-havers going to the surface? I haven't really ever seen it depicted in furry art, so here's my attempt.

Some tidbits: In their world, mingling between the two "sides" is rare but increasing in frequency as technology improves. Myridia really likes the soft fur of the surface dwellers. Since shark sightings are rare, she tends to be called a great white shark by locals on the beach, but in reality she's a salmon shark and doesn't correct them. She enjoys making people nervous about her sharp teeth when she's being affectionate.
