So I've been needing to make a 'vent' comic to burn off some of my anger for what the US President is doing to my home country as well as the world in general. I posted on Discord a while ago about how I felt about the US president was basically declaring economic War on Canada, Mexico, China and other countries. Now some of you probably support Trump and nothing I can say will convince you otherwise.

Trump will take a kernel of truth, embellish and distort it to reflect his own goal and addenda, and that's how he is truly dangerous. There's been so many half truths and lies about why Trump is putting tariffs on Canada, but it boils down to the one ultimate goal, which he has said numerous times. He wants Canada to become part of the United States of America as the 51st state. As much as Red-white and Blue Americans do not want to become Canadian. WE Canadians do NOT want to be Americans. I know for some of you, that may be hard to believe, but not everyone thinks the "United States is the Greatest country in the world".Anycase, I don't want go on a tangent. You may agree, you may not agree. But I really needed to vent to get a load off my mind. I make comics to relax, so this is the outlet I choose for letting go of some of the anger and disdain that I have in my heart now.P.S. Some of you may say, "Didn't Bay become an American in SailorSun.org?" Ah.. no... she got a marriage Visa, but she never did became an American.

I promise you not all Americans agree with what he and his co president Elon Musk is doing.

It is best to stay out of politics, not all of your readers agree with your political opinions. Why anger fans who might cancel their patreon accounts and quit reading your comics?

If it weren’t for the snow globe effects of the lakes, I’d move to Canada as a truck driver, but I’d miss my free trips to Texas for bbq…😁

CDRudd

That is a valid point. I address some of that in the blog of my post. BUT I'm willing to take the risk of some patreons deciding not to follow me then to letting this anger continue to fester inside and vent out in a more destructive medium.

CDRudd

Thanks. I needed to vent and this was the least hateful way I could find to do it,

Actually, I kind of liked Trudeau's offer to make California the 11th province. I'd be happy to take that over living in Trump's America, and I wouldn't have to face the stress of moving.

CDRudd

I would welcome our new California-Canadians if that would ever happen.

The Rare Delurker

I realize you're Canadian, but was Sailor Sun set in Canada the entire time? Or is it Rudd Productions, only?

CDRudd

I don't like to set a firm location for comics (except JeanieBottle), but yes, SailorSun.org was set somewhere in the United States.

The media, unfortunately, don't report all of the facts. In this case, it appears to have started with a Trump/Trudeau discussion. Canada imposes some very high tariffs on a fair number of US imports, and Trump wants them reduced. Trudeau told him that Canada cannot survive without essentially blocking US imports, which led to Trump joking that in that case, Canada should become a US state. And then he kept hammering that joke, and using tariffs on Canadian imports to try to pressure Canada into changing. He has no intention of bringing Canada into the US as a state - doing so would guarantee that his Party never won another election. The media doesn't report the background because it would undermine their goal of making Trump look like a madman.

CDRudd

Well, I generally keep my ears open on Canadian Poltics. The only tariff Canada has introduced since the USMCA agreement (till recent tariffs in response to Mr. Trumps's tariffs) was on China's EV imports to Canada which was executed last year. The USMCA which, Trump had said, "...significant, modern and balanced trade agreement in history" (Ref https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQrJ5RWSjMg&t=11s) (Which bTW, comes up for renewal later this year) was a agreement Canada was following till someone decided to throw it out the window. BUT I'm always willing to look at the other side. Please provide some unbias links to the high tariffs Canada has imposed on US imports before the trade war started (aka before Trump imposed tariffs on Canada early Feb and Early March) so I can see where The High Tariffs Canada has imposed on the US.

CDRudd

I can't seem to open the document, but this was released in 2010, and the USMCA under Trump's last administration was signed in 2020, which replaced NAFTA. NAFTA (which was in effect during 2010 also Has US restrictions on what could be shipped from Canada into the United States. Agricultural products such as dairy, poultry, and eggs from Canada were subject to US tariff rate quotas, and the U.S. also had restrictions on Canadian wheat exports. Teh Big item that was Tariffed on the Canadian side was dairy (milk), which was meant to prevent our dairy farmers from going bankrupt cause US producers would vastly over supply the Canadian Market. This was something that remained from NAFTA to the USMCA, which again is a tariff agreed on by both nations (under Trumps administration and blessed by Trump as 'one of the best ever deals'.

Russell Gold

Yeah, I don't really understand why this came up now and not when negotiating the USMCA. It seems very odd to me that "US producers would vastly over supply the Canadian Market." Surely it should cost less to sell locally than to import? If not, it suggests that Canadian producers are relatively inefficient - possibly incentivized to be by Canadian law. It also means that Canadians are being forced to pay higher prices to preserve an inefficient industry.

I learnt a long time ago as a long haul trucker, never try to understand the profit margin in economics and trade. I've hauled products over the border plus thousands of miles to delivery to a destination. THEN go across the state, pick up the exact same kind of product and drive it thousand of miles again to another location. An example that still boggles my mind, I would literally pick up Pies from Kemptville Nova Scotia and drive them to Seattle Washington (and I did that numerous times, It wasn't a one time deal). No one else in 2 countries can make pies closer that wouldn't been to be driven across the whole continent? If you try to understand how things make profit without knowing the ins and outs, you'll go mad.
