Renovate a tavern, befriend the locals, and let somebody else save the world in this cozy D&D adventure!

Once Upon A Tavern is something quite different to my usual Patreon pieces! For one thing, it's the first adventure I've ever written that involves no essential combat encounters. For another, it's tonally one of the most light-hearted and wholesome Tales Arcane adventures so far. If you're looking for a palate cleanser between campaigns, a break from battles, or something to run with younger players, this might be it!

Across four in-game weeks, the players rebuild a run-down tavern, help out local villagers with their problems, and find a place within the small community of Witchwood. Your players will encounter a ghost with a song stuck in its head, a goblin with delusions of grandeur, a monastery full of (slightly) repentant thieves, a nervous pig in the apothecary, and a lot more.

You can run this adventure as a stand-alone experience or as part of a larger campaign, or you can just take all the encounters and NPCs from the setting and use them in a different setting entirely. If you do want to run the adventure as intended, however, it should work for players at most levels.

Enjoy!

Such a great concept for a casual game, might incorporate some of it into downtime

Any maps for the tavern?

This is such a great idea! One of my dreams is to play as a player in a campaign with a focus of being a tavern keeper/owner and everything is focused on upgrading the tavern and making it better. I have written some of the basics for this but I am excited to read this and get another perspective. As well, the idea of "Cozy Adventuring" is something I am seeing come up a bit on YT and that title really explains the idea behind this sort of gaming. Though I have written off 5e and all things WOTC since the OGL debacle, and their constant questionable decisions. I am confident that Once Upon A Tavern will translate well to any AD&D 2e and OSR type systems. Thank you so much for all your content! Sláinte!!!

I saw a YouTube short about this adventure and joined just to get this! I love the concept and having now read it, I'm super excited to give it a spin. I'm setting up a Discord server to hopefully run this in the very near future as a play-by-post game. One of my friends is already in so we're doing well!
