A wyvern has stolen a child and retreated to its mountain lair! Will your players climb a dangerous cliff and battle the monster?

This is a small travel encounter for players around Level 5 or 6, though the challenge could be scaled up for a party of Level 8 or 9 adventurers, by including a second wyvern.

As always, maps are attached to this post.

NOTE: You may notice that this encounter is slightly shorter than some previous travel encounters, and has some structural changes in how the information is laid out. I really want to make sure I get a travel encounter out every Monday, and to make that possible, I'm trying to streamline how I present these encounters, to make the workload more manageable for myself. My intention is to provide the same amount of useful content for your games, but with a more concise presentation style. I hope that makes sense, and I'm very excited about the return of weekly encounters!

I understand the desire for consistency but what makes your stories so interesting is the details. Anyone can write a "Save my X from Y" story. Your interesting characters, environments and dilemma's are the best part. For a direct comparison, I remember a encounter you wrote about a "Hag who stole a child" which really took a normal trope and turned it on its head. I also understand not wanting to overwhelm yourself and burning out. Your mental health is important too :) Keep it up!

I love these short encounters even more than I like longer, detailed adventures. Tje first gives me ideas and freedom. Also, my players and I enjoy theatre of the mind as much as using Owlbear Rodeo, so we are super content and satisfied when you create shorr encounters (as opposed to long adventures). I like the first because I can get, say, 3 or 4 short encounters and weave them into something unique using my secret sauce (as opposed to using a single long adventure). Keep up the great work!!
