Let's chat about splitting the party, and why Strixhaven is so much fun (and so badly written).

In addition to my normal content, I'll now be posting Patreon-only videos where I talk about my home-games and how I'm dealing with various problems arising at my own table! These are going to be very relaxed, conversational videos, unlike my scripted YouTube content, but I hope you find them useful.

I love making this kind of content, because it feels...authentic, I guess? It's nice to just chat about D&D, without worrying too much about how succinct I'm being, so I'm excited to make more of these.

Enjoy!

(The background music here is by Nerdius Maximus Studios - I mixed it a little too low to hear clearly, but they do great soundtracks, which I'll be using in more of my videos in future.)

Hi! I’m a new patron, just signed up yesterday. Thanks for the content!

Such a good idea, looking forward to these videos! 😀 In terms of Strixhaven, I was looking into it, but I also heard it was written poorly. Are there any modules that are like it that you recommend?

I ran all of Year One Strixhaven with a 5-player party and loved it! I ran each "day" as split parties of morning, afternoon, and evening encounters as players wanted to explore, cutting as you describe. Even though classes were at different times, we played those events concurrently for players to stay involved in a turn order.

That was fun! I'm looking forward to your next one

Hi there. I have just become a patron. When you say "it feels...authentic, I guess? It's nice to just chat about D&D, without worrying too much about how succinct I'm being, so I'm excited to make more of these." Well, that's exactly what I'm looking for. You are one of the only two content creators I trust for my chillaxing needs. And I've been playing D&D for over 3 decades, so that's dating a lot. ;-) Thanks so much for your great content. Be well, Vinnie

You should make a Discord as well 😅🙏🏾

Howdy! I’m a new patron but I am setting up a Strixhaven esk series of 7 one shots. I kept the world and a lot of the npc and some of the notions that move it but am re-writing the rest. 7 years instead of four and I worked an actual curriculum with exams and study sessions into it. The “side quest” requirements were buggy and I didn’t want to tie it down like that so I have like a traditional campaign an arch villain that they will find clues to in the possible events they can trigger. I think they are all excited for the Film Noir/Mystery/horror aspect hidden in the magical school for adventurers I’m calling Sindarian’s. I would be interested to see more on Strixhaven and how you run spice up the gameplay there if you are willing to share more :)
