Here's chapter one!  I'll likely have the monthly poll up tomorrow and maybe work on the next chapter of Winning Peace while you guys vote for me to dedicate another month to Industrious (I know the score, I'm not stupid).

Anyway, thank everyone for supporting me and my writing.  Words can't describe how much I appreciate it, but I'll keep giving you thousands of them at a time.

Where Your God Is

Slayer Anderson Where Your God Is A Sword Art Online Fanfiction 02/27/2023 Chapter 1: "Don't worry about it, Sugu," I waved my younger sister off. "You can log-in and look around for yourself before your older brother comes along and spoils your fun." Suguha rolled her eyes. "You're not that...

Oooh this looks super interesting. What sort of bonuses or supreme knowledge would a game dev have in SAO? And was the developers dying a regular part of the anime? It does make sense for the madman running the show to kill anyone with the keys to his kingdom

GAMB42

I always have been ambivalent to SAO. It is not the best LN/anime series ever or particularly original but for all of it is tropes and gags it is at least competent in what it sets out do. I'm more excited to see precisely what new elements are going to be in play with a SI on the MC that knows so much more of whats in play. And where does a virus comes from to force the Nerve Gear like that ? Specially since this seems like a SI who knew what he was doing ?

Axel Wate

Currently the biggest question I have is why Si!Kazuto basically invited Suguha to try SAO? I am quite uncertain about the advantages he is planning to bring to SAO considering that Cardinal is a AI that constantly monitors and alters the various elements of the game In Real Time to mantain balance and that Kayaba is inside the game Aside from that i guess he is intimate with her (is this fic NSFW?), did he actually alter his NerveGear or it was just lip to calm her down? Still, really interesting

Chris

This is going to be very interesting. Sounds like he is the last living expert on SAO as well. Looking forward to seeing where you take this one.

Darkarma

When I saw the vote I was like Meh, SAO? Nevermind, please continue. I want more.

Wolf Man

Omg YES. Thank you.

Cameron Burchett

YES. Bow before god! He’s going to be an even more BS existence now!

GAMB42

Actually I think when he mentioned the devs were killed it also applied to Kayaba. From what I understood there was some kind of attack on the system that is running SAO and when it went public somebody, maybe a riot or maybe the antagonists, attacked the devs and killed them even when they were also diving and trying to fix the issue.

Benjamin Hower

Well, I'm sold on the premise. Good work!

Slayer Anderson

The devs didn’t die in SAO, we’re going far off the rails.

Slayer Anderson

The virus was uploaded by a group that invaded the company headquarters of Argus, who created the game. They’re the ones who killed people and are the reason why the SAO incident is happening in this timeline.

Slayer Anderson

There will be some NSFW bits, eventually. Maybe chapter ten or so, but to answer your question… Kirito thought he’d averted the whole Death Game thing by becoming friends with Akihito Kayaba. That’s the ‘sensei’ mentioned in the narrative.

GAMB42

But then isn't it stupidly dangerous for for the SI to get stuck on SAO too ? I mean if this group already attacked the people who are diving why is he going in too without anykind of failsafe ? I understand he is trusting his mother with his phisycal body health but this seems really reckless.

Slayer Anderson

It will be explained in full later, but they killed off the company staff so no one will save the people who are locked in the game. They want the game to kill the players as a political statement against society. Kirito wasn’t formally on the company roles except as an intern due to his age. Also, yes, this is the very definition of reckless and he knows it.

Andrew B

All I can think of right now is SAO Abridged Kirito’s voice: “Bu I got good news! You see, there’s no need to wonder where your god is! ‘Cause he’s right here- and he’s fresh out of mercy.” I’m really looking forward to how you twist Kirito to be a power gamer who isn’t socially disturbed, and hopefully have plenty of in jokes from the MMO space.

Alec

Ah, thank you for clarifying, when I read through it the first 3 times I thought that Kirito had tried to reach Akihiko emotionally in the lead up to the launch, but failed, and SAO went ahead as planed, I thought the people that killed the devs were an armed police response getting trigger happy. Honestly I feel a bit lost with this one, there's no explanation, or lead up to Kirito seeming to have first hand knowledge of the other timeline, and the premise that SAO could still take place without Akihiko's active participation seems at least to me to be a bit of a stretch, given that he invented the tech, and that SAO was supposed to be years ahead of anything else third parties had put on the platform before. As I recall ALfheim Online was developed by studding SAO, and that their wasn't any competition until Kirito disseminated the SEED. I suppose I'll just have to keep reading to find out, but so far this just leaves me scratching my head.

Slayer Anderson

There's actually a bunch of plot and stuff that happened behind the scenes that I'll get into later. I wasn't sure about the In Medias Res start myself, but I didn't want to get too bogged down when Industrious took twenty five or more chapters to get to the 'good part' with action. I made the decision to backload a bunch of details here that I'll be delving into later on and explaining as they become relevant. Suffice to say, SAO still being a Death Game even without Kayaba's participation has good reasons behind it. It isn't just a thing that has to happen to move the plot along.

Alec

Interesting, personally though I'd take the opposite approach, my favorite part of Industrious so far is its beginning, I thought you set the scene and the pacing wonderfully with that one, while both this work, and your Mass Effect story just feel terribly rushed and unfinished to me. I suppose its a balancing act that's not hitting me personally just right, oh well, thank you again for clarifying.

Klever Kilvanya

Well I like it, but god damn stopping it there is mean.
