I'm working on my info dump of everything I know of Seven and Enzo so I can get a feel for them as people. To do this, I literally word vomit everything into one giant paragraph on an empty page, then separate it by character and then look for their emotional wounds, motivations, etc.

It got me thinking though. There's just certain things I love about office romances. Storage closet hookups, helping the other one when they're behind, either in secret or not, finding excuses to talk to each other and work together.

What are your favorite office tropes and swoony things that you love to see in office romances?

I think one thing that sticks out to me in office romances is when one of them has to show the other something on the computer or document etc and then like lean/spoon behind them to show them. Very like Ghost clay wheel scene lol. I also love the first time they see each other outside of work in their home or relaxed clothes and get to see like a softer/vulnerable side to them

oh gosh, i think i would love to see enzo helping seven from the sidelines, like slipping just the right papers on his desk or something, leaving lunch or coffe on his desk because he's overworked and shit, that would be so sweet. in general i think that office romance has the appeal of all the suble things, like maybe they work in cubicles in front of each other and they can't keep their eyes off of each other, all the officey-but-not-really talks about cases stuffed with innuendos, maybe elevator groping or something. the beauty of this trope lies in building the tension until it explodes and i live for it.

My husband and I met at work. We of course never did anything illicit at work. But he works in IT so he would grab random computer equipment like chargers and ethernet cables and he'd pretend to be fixing something in my office so we could hang out. He'd also sit in front of my computer and pretend to be working on it. The sweet things also like finding a reason even if it's and off the wall reason to go talk to them. My guy works with me and he will just stop by my machine to say hi, or just to see how I'm doing, or hide by me when he need a minute. Hating on the office "karens" together. It's very specific but oh well. One of the characters overhears another coworker shit talking their love interest or talking about getting them in trouble/fired. So that character either lets the love interest know or they fix the problem with the mean coworker for them without telling them. Similarly, if one of the characters is getting shit on at work (usually the one lower on the work ladder) and their love interest sticks up for them in front of the whole office. Extra brownie points if they fire someone who has been giving their love interest a lot of shit.

Definitely the under the desk thing but I like it better when it’s like the Asa on the phone/Zane interrupting scene. The “trying to keep a straight face while he’s a shit” isn’t as fun as “I AM REALLY GOOD AT THIS DUCKING REACT YOU FICK!” Or like it’s no big deal like Jules with Grimarr in The Lady and the Orc. Also, the lower ranked one getting mad at the boss for seemingly favoritizing then (putting them up to lead a project kind of things) and raging that they want to do it on their own- and then finding out from other supervisors/managers/etc that they were selected for their skill, not because other MC “showed them favoritism”. Basically, boss MC just appreciating them for who they are and what they do without expecting anything in return. Very “I love you just as you are, for who you are, whether you love me back or not”.

True story. In 2022 I had two co-workers (software developers) who were both engaged to other people outside the company. Fast forward to 2024, and I noticed they had been leaving the office at the same time and seemed to be spending a lot of time together. Next thing I know, I happen to look up from my computer, they’ve been having a post-lunch conversation, and then they’re rolling forward in their chairs and giving a full-on kiss on the lips in the middle of the office. As they break apart, Jen spots me and realizes I saw them kissing and starts to laugh about being caught. But…I grew up in a neighborhood of gossips and will not pry. None of my business. It was killing me, though, for a couple of months. Happened to be in a little Christmas work celebration with John a few months later, and during our conversation found out the two had gotten engaged and are getting married this year. They make a cute couple, they’re really nice, and I’m happy for them. That little office kiss was adorable, even though I’m usually old-school about office relationships.
