If you don't want to hear about my drama and trauma, ignore this post. Please!!!! If you're new, I tend to word vomit and TMI every six months or so about my private life. Trigger Warning: Mental health, trauma, and talk of unalivingAnyone who's been here a while knows that I had a little nervous breakdown last November. And by little, I mean I was circling the drain, getting my affairs in order, ready to punch my ticket to the afterlife for good. Well, I believe in reincarnation, but believe me when I say I was ready to tell whoever's on the other side that I was done with this simulation. I'm not coming back.  I can't believe it's been a year. Wow. So anyway, I'm currently seeing a psychiatrist and a trauma therapist to deal with my fucked up childhood and all of the horrible shit I've gone through in my life and I stumbled onto this song and it kind of punched me in the face. I have a really hard time voicing my feelings about my past. Like, a really really hard time. Six therapists deep and still can't talk about it hard. Haven't cried in three fucking years hard. But this song...this is exactly it. This is me. I sent the song to my therapist, like here, this is what's going on in my head. Fix it. It's like all the shit I can't say out loud to people. I'm sharing this because I have been told I don't share enough in real life and because honestly, I still can't share this with people I see face to face so I'm using you guys as my personal diary. Sorry, not sorry. LOL. Also, I'm sure there's people who can also relate to this song. Word of warning, though. If you've never heard NF, prepare yourself cause he never sugar coats shit and if you've got trauma, you will be right back in it. Like I said, I'm in my feelings today and I'm trying to process stuff and you guys are the latest victims of that. Why am I down this rabbit hole, you might ask? Because someone very innocently asked about The Alchemist's Son. They wanted the ending to the story or, more to the point, they wanted to know if there was an ending. There isn't. And it eats at me. I'm a perfectionist with a PhD in self loathing and a minor in imposter syndrome. I'm super hard on myself (and others, but that's a whole other therapy session) This is only one of two stories I've never finished. But i can't finish it. I know that sounds weird, but I physically cannot finish the story. At least not yet.  I was writing TAS while simultaneously going through one of the worst times in my life. Like this-might-be-one-of-the-last-things-I-ever-write times. Even while I was planning my exit, I was trying to be practical about it. I was doing my best to finish Necessary Evils because I thought that series would be my legacy and as long as it still sold my kid wouldn't be homeless and my readers wouldn't hate me for never finishing the series. I could go out having accomplished something. It was a medication issue that triggered this whole series of unfortunate events last year. Being taken off of it, that is. While I've been fucked up in the head since I was little, I was really good at hiding it. Still am, honestly. But last year stripped all my vices and almost ended me. Almost. Thanks to my child who got me help, I rallied. And because of that, I am now trying to be an adult and handle my past so it stops trying to kill me. Hence all of this self-reflection and shadow work.Sooooooo, yeah. I'm so going to regret writing this later when I come to my senses. Sorry for yet again unleashing TMI on you, but like I said, sometimes I just have to get this out, and I don't have the balls to say it to people face to face. Not even my therapist. Hah. If you made it this far, thanks for reading, and thanks for somehow sticking around through all of this. You guys are the real MVPs. Hopefully, you don't unsubscribe after this. LOL.

Hey , no matter how many books you finish or not , your mental health and happiness is all that matters! You gave us many amazing series! You are amazing and you have an amazing brain! I wish you the best and if you never manage to deal with all the past it’s okay. The point is you are trying and is enough !❤️❤️❤️

sarahjj83

I knew you were suffering but had no idea just how bad it was for you 😔 I’m so glad you’re getting the help you need & that you are finding reasons to stay ❤️ If I unsubscribe it will 100% be for financial reasons & I admire & appreciate your honesty & openness with us all ❤️

Kirstin Jimenez

Thank you for sharing. They may not tell you, but you’ve just helped at least one person realize they can ask for help. 😘

Jayce

there aren't words really I can say that won't sound like meaningless bs. but im glad youre still here and giving the middle finger to everything trying to hold you down despite how hard doing that is

Krys

I’ve been here a while and obviously you don’t owe us anything as far as your personal life goes- BUT!!! As someone who went through something similar this last year - left job prepared life was ready - I can’t say how much I appreciate your effort with saying this. It’s so hard to put into words, I never had, and I know that’s the case for most and is what makes it all the more isolating. So ya, I appreciate you and this and am so happy you’re here - you’re irreplaceable.

Sending hugs and positive thoughts your way ❤️

I would like to start off with saying, in case no one else has, I am proud of you for finding someway to get the voices out. It is one of the hardest things to do sometimes especially when it involves digging up the shit that still eats at one's psyche constantly and the monsters that hide in the shadows just constantly waiting. This was deeply personal, and it means a lot that you are willing to share it with us. It is yet another reason you are one of my favorite authors that I follow. That being said, sorry you can't get rid of me that easily! My friends joke that I am a plague, once I catch you there is no getting rid of me lol.

Melissa Tarrington

Having been in that same situation a couple years ago (plans in place, contingency plans and an exit planned all too well) I can tell you that you are a brave, amazing and STRONG person to have come out the other side of that. Even being willing to talk to a therapist or vent your feelings here shows how strong you are. I am always here if you ever want to talk but you are an amazing light in the world and it would make a big difference in how we all see the world if it went out. -big hugs-

Sophie Williams

Big hugs. Childhood and adulthood trauma is a lot. I find it's easier to write down sometimes because I tend to go non speaking when stressed. I'll definitely be doing the PowerPoint of here's why I'm fucked up when I go back to therapy. Like here's a quick intro 😅 Look I will wait forever for that ending and honestly not even care if we get it because your mental health always comes first. Will say glad to have my emotional support psychopaths though 😅 But yeah write what works for you we will read it you know us. I'll be avoiding the music though 😅

JC

Thank you for trusting us with your thoughts, lovely lady, be they good, bad or indifferent. You are loved and you matter, always. ❤️

Rebecca Conary

Wow. That song hit me unexpectedly. I've been going through very similar struggles, and I admire your ability to even put word to paper. Know that your books have made a difference. Reading and rereading the Necessary Evils series was the only thing that kept me moving some days. I hope you always feel like you can word vomit in this space.

Rayna Hernandez

So many hugs! Thank you for sharing with us. I sincerely appreciate you being so open with us, not just on this post but every other post as well. I feel like you put yourself out there alone and I love it. I'm so glad that you're still here, even when it's hard.

Nicole Williams

All the love. All the hugs. I'm so glad you're still here. You matter, even if you never write another word. You matter.

Vamprayne

I'm glad you stayed. Thank you for sharing. Your word vomiting shows that you're human like the rest of us. Know you are loved💙💙

Kristina Leopold

Thanks for sharing this with us. That must have been hard for you. If you haven't yet give a listen to the band "CitizenSoldier" their songs have been a great help for me. ❤️

Nikki Robson

My husband is dealing with shit over this last year too and has regularly been contemplating punching his card, unfortunately one of the things triggering him is me having any sort of negative feelings about anything, so I’ve been reinforcing my Pandora’s box of crap and burying everything down deep. Books have been my only escape and you are a huge part of that, because I can escape and I’m not drowning in reality it means I can carry on being there for my kids and continue supporting him and helping him be there for them too. On the other side of that I know there is likely a huge blow out coming from me and people talking so openly about mental health is making it easier for me to see I won’t need to hide it and cope with it all alone. Thankyou for being you, for being open and honest with us and for sharing all your amazingly broken characters.

Anka L.

Huge hugs and I am so impressed you talk about it. Putting yourself out there like this is amazingly brave. We are here for you ❤️

Alexandra Gonzalez

I'm so glad you were able to find the words to express your feelings, your books have done that for me so I know how liberating it feels. That song is powerful, thank you for sharing it. I'm not going anywhere! I'm happy to play personal diary for you! 😘😘😘

Joelle R

I once had a therapist who told me that I talk a lot about myself but I don’t really say anything and so this post hit hard. I totally get how hard it can be to open up and also helpful it can be to have a sounding board that is close and personal to you, and yet, not someone you have to encounter in daily life. I have online friends who keep me sane because that distance gives me more freedom to be brave and say what I need too. I am happy that I (and we) can be that for you in some small way. In return for all the time and joy you bring me, it’s the least I can do.

Ash Story

Sending you so so much love. 🖤✨🖤

Joey Blue

I'm very glad that you're still with us and thank you for your vulnerability. Sending you all the love and light

Dee Bueno

I adore NF. He’s real & relatable. Music is healing. Prayers for you & your healing. You CAN do hard things (obviously). You WILL make it through this. As cliche as it sounds, growth is HARD - but you’ll be stronger on the other side

Angie

Happy to be here to read anything your write, more so if it helps you in your life. Massive fan here. Reading what you wrote just makes me more impressed by you. Sending hugs 💖

Stephanie Portz

I'm so glad you're still here. I really relate to just about everything you wrote, and I love it when the brain demons don't win. 💜

Amanda Tanimoto

You should look up Citizen Soldier. They write a lot of songs about mental health. The lead singer actually deals with mental health issues and is a practicing psychologist.

Lisa

It's easier and safer to say things to those we don't see everyday. I have never listened to NF before but that song speaks to part of me and I do that too, have parts of myself that no one sees and I don't talk about. Your works bring unspeakable joy to me when I need them most. I'm glad to listen to anything you want to say and need an audience for that helps you on your journey.

Beth

Thank you for sharing that. Sometime it's easier to say thing without knowing or seeing them. I have my own issues with trauma from my childhood that I've tried to move in from. Most of the times I'm fine, but sometimes it creeps in. Happy to be a sounding board when you need it. ❤️

Sus

Honored to be part of your safe space to process/rant/gnash teeth/shake your fist at the sky. Sending you so much strength and peace.

Erin Cooper

Sending a shit ton of love and gratitude for your vulnerability and transparency in this post. So many people benefit from seeing this! Thank you and we’re so glad you’re here and sharing stories that help people process trauma and see happy endings even in fucked up situations ♥️

Meghan Jacobs

So very glad you're still here and going through the process and struggle to stay. I have love reading everything you've ever created. The characters and worlds you've crafted and poured your creative heart into have become my comfort characters. The stories I turn to when I'm feeling down or just want an extra dose of happy. But even if you never wrote another word, you being in this world is enough. Just glad you're here. ❤️

Keagin Rose

Not sure if this is exactly quid pro quo but as long as I use your books to as a vice for mental health and to escape reality, you can use me as a trauma dump personal diary. Your characters, your words, have given *me* the words to bring my feelings to the surface. So we're in this together 🖤🖤🖤🖤 love, light, and hugs

Marlena Astorga

Hey, I’m still here with you. No worries. We all go through sh!t. It’s fine. Also, the amount of therapists doesn’t matter. Each one is just a step along the way. I hope this year is better for you, and each day you can enjoy something or find something that makes you smile. I’ll still be here cheering you on along the way. Sending you best wishes!

Sage

You are my hero for having the courage to keep going. And for knowing that you have a support system here. I love your writing, but this post makes me love you for your soul.

Trish Skywalker

It is never TMI when it comes to mental health. I’m so glad you were able to get help and I’m sure sharing will help people here. It’s easy to think that people are fine bc they’re still working and living. You’re a brave and strong person and I thank you for trusting us with your story 💙💙

Tina

Sending you all the love. My experience is that sharing helps me feel so much less alone, but I know how hard it is. Thank you for sharing with us and taking the time to let us be there for you. And a huge cheer for taking care of yourself!

Julianne Brasher

I went through a year of severe agoraphobia in 2021. I had panic attacks and was terrified of being attacked by men when I left my home (stems from trauma before I was triggered). You have no idea how much your books helped me feel something. I was numb for a long time. I’m sorry you’ve been having a tough time mentally. I know it’s hard to literally feel like you’re clawing your way back to good mental health. I hope you continue to get better and get the treatment you need. Maybe one day you’ll be able to talk about it more openly. Until then, I’m happy to read your venting. Know that you aren’t alone and your fans are behind you💗

Holly McMorries

Your strength is astounding. To share this part of your life is a gift for all of us. I am glad that you are getting help for issues that almost derailed your life. Just know that all of us are so grateful for everything you have written and allowed us to read. Just thank you.

Kate B

I love NF especially this song and I’m glad that you found it, and that it helped you tell your therapist what’s happening inside your head. I’m very new to your work, like a month and have purchased all your books, and loved the ones that I’ve read so far. I still have a few more to read but no doubt that I’ll thoroughly enjoy them also. I’ve already read Necessary Evils and Paladin twice and I’m loving the WIP’s that you post on Patreon. I’m so glad that you’re still here. I think it’s cool that you share your story as it may help others who may be/have been struggling. I’m glad that you have a sounding board here on Patreon to get your thoughts and feelings out. As you mentioned it’s easier to share with people who don’t personally know you, as possible judgement is usually easier to take from someone you don’t see everyday or have never met. Keep putting your thoughts and feelings here, as kind of a diary if it keeps helping you. I know I and many others it seems will happily read anything you decide to write. Much love and support on your journey.

Jessica maloney

Powerful song. Thank you for showing us your room, we’ll do our best to keep the shadowy parts lit up. 💌

Amy W

Your mental health is never TMI. You are one of the most honest authors I have had the pleasure of following and I am thankful for it. You are strong. You are courageous. You are beautiful. You are loved. You are still here. You are seen. ❤️❤️ Your stories have touched me and make me feel so much. We all have our own demons and I use your stores to help escape mine (especially when I need a big bad psycho to protect me). Thank you for continuing your journey and being brave and honest to share. Sending hugs and positive thoughts your way. 🫂🥰❤️

Mary Moyer

I will always be here to listen no matter what you need to say. You’re incredibly brave for being here today and carrying on even with your heavy burden. And I’m sure I can speak for many of us when I say even if you never wrote another word we would be so thankful that you’re here.

Carly M

It means a lot to me that you’re open and vulnerable. Not because you have to, or owe us… But because it means so much to relate, especially to someone I look up to. I’m glad you’re here and love knowing all the parts you show us.

Terri Gutierrez

We’re always here for you. You are more than brave and more than enough.

Lauren Gibbs

I'm glad you felt safe enough to share something so personal! I can totally relate to you on the childhood trauma side of things, and I hate that for us... I am so glad to hear that you're doing better now though, and I hope you only continue to feel better! Even though your books mean THE WORLD to me, I'd NEVER want them to come at the price of your mental health. I respect you so much for prioritizing your mental health and pushing releases when you need to. 🙏🏻 No matter what anyone says, prioritizing yourself and your family is so commendable! 💓✨️💓✨️

Cass

As a fellow neurodivergent, your trauma dumping not only feels normal but also like being accepted. And we constantly tell you we’d read anything you write, that includes your personal stuff too. Support systems come in all shapes and sizes, happy to be here in this one for you 💜💜💜

Gina Davis

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Beth

I am glad you are here with us. ♥️

Jera

Sending you sooo much love. I can not even imagine the things you are going through but I'm sending all the positive vibes and the biggest hug if you're a hugger!! ❤️❤️❤️

Darkbookgirlie

Big hugs ❤️❤️we love everything you do and are glad you're here with us.

Elliott Iris

I had a grippy sock vacation last summer. NE was a series that was so comforting to me as I transitioned from 24/7 care back to home life. I hope you know how much we all appreciate you. I feel you on the trauma kicking your ass thing as I worked through a 30 year battle with depression. Weirdly magnets, I’m not perfect PTSD and a couple other disorders still get me but it has allowed me to work on my trauma shit in EMDR. I would highly recommend looking to see if you’re eligible for TMS, it’s not for everyone but I hadn’t heard of it till my inpatient stay and it changed my life. 🖤

Rachel McCarthy

You're one of my heroes, and honestly, your sharing with us makes it easier to breathe because I know I'm not alone out here. NE has done something profound - ever since I started reading it, and joining your Patreon, and generally being part of this little band of psychopath-lovers, I have changed as a person. I left a job that was killing me slowly. I went back to therapy. I eventually left a toxic industry behind for one full of joy (who doesn't love being around pets and pet people?!) And I think it's all because of you and your brain children, and this wonderful, snarky group of thirsty fans (I freely admit that I'm a thirsty fan!) I'm glad you share with us, especially if it helps get weight off your soul that hurts you. I'm glad you exist in this world.

Christina K.

Holy sh!t, both your post and the song are incredibly powerful. I can’t even imagine the strength it takes to feel all that and still go on and seek help to work through the trauma. You’re incredible and brave. Thank you for sharing ❤️

Natalie Graiff

I love everything you write. ❤️❤️❤️ The world without you and your wonderful written books would darken more than anything you’ve written. Everyone deserves the right to take a brake from everything in their life and just do what’s right for them. For you that was deciding not to finish a book or two and choosing to do something to make yourself happy. Listening to music and reading a good book (Headcase) after having a bad day always help to cheer me up.

Celeste Henton

So brave to voice those feelings it can be a liberating experience just know I support you in all you do! Much love!

Radical Magpie

I’m so so so so grateful for you. In a quadrillion ways. So many pieces of what you say here resonate with me so loudly and clearly and truly. If anything, I’d subscribe again and again and again ✨🖤❤️🖤✨

Kate W Ramos

I'm bi polar II and my son is also facing same diagnosis. Hopefully getting him help before he gets manic or more depressed and then refuses help. Life is super hard and I am sorry yours isn't easier. You are not alone. And hugs to your kid. Tell them thank you.

Erin Perez

Some people have a mind palace, some people have a maze... and some of us unlucky fuckers have a fun house with a side of horror . I am so glad you're getting help and working through it. I'm headed back into therapy to learn to deal with a couple of diagnoses I probably should have had as a kid, but no one talked about in the 70s and 80s. Much love and space to heal. 🧡

GreenwingReads

It takes courage to share personal details face to face or through a screen. Sometimes, sharing with strangers is easier. I won't pretend to understand what you're going through, but I am so grateful to your child for helping you get the help you need and that things didn't go the way they could have last year. I hope things continue to improve for you and you can enjoy the holidays with your family, especially your new grandbaby. Your legacy will be so much more than one book or series; you've impacted people in more ways than you could ever imagine. A while back, I sent you a message on FB asking about how you built your editing team. I was a new editor trying to decide how to best market my services. Of the several authors I reached out to, you were one of only two who answered, and your answer was thorough and thoughtful. To me, your legacy will be as a popular, incredibly talented author who didn't owe me the time of day, but kindly chose to give it to me anyway. ❤️

Andi Privitere

A friend of mine once said to me “we can never normalise trauma but we need to normalise acknowledging it” and that’s stuck with me for many years.

LausBookRambles

I have tears in my eyes because the things we hide sometimes eat us from the inside, and we can’t even voice them. I’m glad you are at least able to share with us. And that takes courage. I’m glad things are going better. We will always be here. 🤍🤍

Caroline Stack

So glad you're getting help. Sometimes the willingness to be willing is all it takes to even consider making those impossible seeming steps. Sending comfort and consolation vibes.

Lena

I’m sorry you had to go through that and experience that level of struggle. I am very glad to hear that you were getting the support that is needed. I am quite sure that for a lot of people, the world would not be as bright without you here. ❤️❤️

BlueSnowflakes

You still being here now shows how strong and brave you are. The courage you have to share your thoughts and feelings is more than I have. You and all the others here with their comments give me hope. Thankyou for being you. 💖

Diana

Leaving this here so you know you're not alone 💞💞💞 Also always feel free to let out some or all of your thoughts, fears, personal details/feelings. We are here to listen.

Kay

I almost unalived myself a year and half ago. The only thing that saved me was a promise I had made to myself, that I would ask for help if it got to that point because whether I loved myself or not I still loved that one little part of my soul that I had kept safe through everything. I got the choice of grippy sock vacation or ECT. I chose ECT (it helped but like, 0/10 stars, do not recommend). I re-read the NE series 2 times while going through that because it was one of the only things that made me feel safe. You matter, and what you do touches other lives. You're worth it. Keep trying and it will get easier. I was lucky enough to find an amazing therapist. One thing I will tell you, don't do trauma therapy until you are in a good place. Seriously, you need to be 100% before you start it. That shit brings EVERYTHING back and puts it front and center. It sucks but it's a necessary part of healing. Stay safe, remember you are loved (even if it's from a bunch of randos on the internet, the love still counts), and we're here for you.💖💖💖

Christina

You’re one of the bravest people I know. It takes extreme courage to get up every day weighted down by trauma and depression to just live. Your books helped me through bouts of depression and anxiety caused by my epileptic medications. You’re the only creator I subscribe to on Patreon. If I’m not reading your books daily, I’m listening to them on Audible while driving. I’m glad you feel comfortable sharing your experiences to our community. We love you and support you.

Karli

You’re amazing!!! I always listen to NF when I’m in my feelings—his work is so real and relatable. I’m glad you could find something to express how you feel on the inside, we all need that sometimes. You’re my favorite author of all time and I love how open and honest you are! Thanks for being yourself & stay fabulous 🦑

Nia Rios

Just know your not alone. I won’t be unsubscribing and am here to listen to all of it. You’re amazing!!! I am extremely happy that you didn’t succeed in removing yourself from this world.

Meghan

Your not alone we’re all here when you need to vent or express yourself 💕💕

Sarah Carver

Take care of yourself! Glad you are hanging in there!

Leslie

I'm so grateful you exist. Just know that you affect people for the good. The only thing that calmed my brain to help me sleep after the break of a 23 year relationship due to cheating was going through NE scenes in my head. I already deal with many health problems and mental illness, but you are one of the things helping me through. Also, this song? I could never accurately describe what goes on in my head, but this really resonated. Like, yes, this. This is it. So thanks for being you. Don't feel embarrassed about this post. For any one person that complains, you're keeping 99 more of us sane. 💚

Courtney Slater

Not going anywhere. I feel like discovering the band of psychopaths (both Mulvaney AND Mulvaney-adjacent) has been like following the bat(💩 crazy) signal to find our "people".

Mary Ann

Thank you for your honesty and vulnerability. I'm proud of you for sharing with us, and I want you to know I appreciate you and your beautiful, creative mind. I hope you are finding joy in this holiday season.

Patricia Loureiro

Hey! Thank you, thank you, thank you for this post. Both this and in a lot of ways the Mulvaneys too, have allowed me to process a lot of teen trauma I had buried very deep inside. At times it seems like lava bublling underneath a cool skin, threatening to explode at any time. I read through the whole series in the past 2 months and it was healing in a lot of ways. I stopped burying thing down and just let it all into journalling. THANK YOU for being out there and for sharing all that you are with us. You're amazing.

Jessica

Thank you for being so brave and honest. It really means a lot to have you share your struggles and vulnerability with us. You are not alone, and you are very loved, both by people irl and by your legions of fans. I feel like many of us have been down the dark path that you have, and I am so grateful that you were strong and survived, and got help when you needed it. You are an inspiration to those of us who are also struggling. Please know that you could never disappoint me personally, and that even if you never wrote another word I would still be here to support you and to listen. I know we don't know each other personally, but I am so so glad you are here. You make the world a better place for so many people, including me. <3

Violet T.

It’s tough to talk to anyone about trauma for some people. I have the same problem opening up. Thank you for being vulnerable here as it helps people realize they aren’t alone. I hope you are doing a bit better now/ are doing better in the future.

Caitlyn Blanton

I’m glad you’re talking with someone to help get through your trauma. That was my first step and it’s the hardest. But you’re here! And I’m glad you’re still here . Thank you for being so transparent with us. You come first, don’t ever forget that! 🩷❤️🧡💛💚🩵💙💜

I was personally falling down a rabbit hole last year in November and didn’t know how to stop hurting. Your stories gave me some place else to be. That and family eventually got me over my hump. I’m glad this space and these lyrics give you a way to get the poison out. Never TMI. Much love ❤️

Christina Overholt

NF is amazing 👌 (in general) but also at putting things into words that are so beautifully simple that you're left with nothing but 'Yes: that.'

Dana Price

I understand. Ketamine infusions, and then later injections, saved my life. That was in 2016 and it still helps me today. It has a way of separating emotions and feelings from the trauma and making it less difficult to process. Ketamine has also been the ONLY medication that has kept my unaliving ideation at bay and that's after 25 years of trying just about everything. That's a snippet of my personal junk. You inspire me with your honesty and your talent and I am happy you are still here. 💜
