Hera, Queen of the Gods and despite being known as the Goddess of Marriage, she was also known to be a jealous and vengeful Goddess. Even before her marriage with Zeus, she ruled over the heavens and Earth.

I felt that this Greek Goddess series wouldn't be complete without the Queen of the Olympus, so I had to go ahead and draw her for this month!

I'll admit, it can be hard to connect with this goddess. The mythology portrays her in a very bad light. She committed many atrocities. But in a way, the more I think about it and learn about how terrible Zeus himself was, the more I come to sympathize with her. It doesn't excuse her acts of vengeance, but I think it is pretty clear in the mythology that being married to Zeus was pretty awful. I imagine despite being queen, or maybe even because of being queen its possible she felt very trapped.

Anyhoo, I hope you like how she turned out!

This is by far the most amazing piece. Hera is my favorite goddess of the whole Greek pantheon and you made her look more godly than I can describe in words. Well done Chrissa. 😍😍😍😍

Oooh! That makes me so happy to hear! It means a lot that I did her justice! Ahhhh! <3

verusalka

that pose is so lovely! I love seeing how you adjusted the original pose into this one, it feels more regal and powerful

Ooh, character design challenge! Might actually join that, though I doubt I stand a chance against so many more talented artists, haha. Lovely drawing as well. Hera has always been a favourite of mine for that jealous side. Remember the hilarious prank she pulled on Heracles? So funny, ha ha.

chrissabug

Thank you so much! Yeah, the original pose just wasn't cutting it and was a little too sideways facing to be powerful. but I thought I would include the sketch so you guys can see the where it all started, even though I totally re-drew it. haha

Wow...just wow...the transparency of her clothing, her expression, the peacock feathers...everything! Beautifully done!

I have a lot of empathy for Hera. Whenever I see a modern take that doesn’t make her the villain I find it so refreshing! This is gorgeous!

Shariffa

Wow she is gorgeous I love the effect of her clothes the transparency it is mind blowing ❤️

chrissabug

I hear you and I completely agree! It is nice to read depictions trying to understand her character more than just making her into the villain. Thank you!

KrisKris_Miller

I always been on Hera's side. I'm loving her seated position. One foot up, ready to dash forward and punch me if I say anything dumb. Like, "oh nice peacock feathe---!" Hera cuts Miller's complement short with a quick bash to his face. Flattery will get him nowhere!

Satoji

Although she is a vengeful goddess, you managed to portray her in a laid back and peaceful way with all the blue and warm colors! She inspires respect that way!
