FRIDAY THE 13TH (1980) Movie Review | Maniacal Cinephile

The Maniacal Cinephile dives into Crystal Lake to review the original FRIDAY THE 13TH (1980) for its 45th anniversary! Join us as we riff, review, and revisit the slasher classic that launched one of horror’s most iconic franchises. Before hockey masks and trips to space, there was a grieving mother... and a whole lot of blood. This review breaks down the film's legacy, from Tom Savini’s legendary gore effects, to Harry Manfredini’s chilling score, and of course, Betsy Palmer’s unforgettable performance as Mrs. Voorhees—the original Camp Crystal Lake killer. We’ll also explore how Friday the 13th borrowed from Halloween, defined the slasher formula of the 1980s, and gave us one of horror’s most shocking jump scares with young Jason Voorhees rising from the lake. Whether you’re a die-hard fan or a horror newbie, come celebrate this cult classic with laughs, trivia, and all the creepy camp vibes you can handle.
