This is a preview of an upcoming story.

Making a run from her carriage and through the heavy rain, Ivy managed to reach her mansion. Stepping through the front doors, she took a moment to run her gauntleted hand through her white hair. Looking around the room at the servants waiting for her return, she was able to determine who was new thanks to their reactions to the skimpy, purple corset hugging her pronounced bosom and showing off her upper thighs. Getting their attention with a clack of her heels and a crack of her living sword, she continued through the foyer.

“Have my dinner brought up to my quarters,” Ivy commanded as she stomped up the stairs.

Ivy’s tone of voice was more than enough to get her point across. She had just gone back from a long trip to recover pieces of Soul Edge. While she had found some success, it hadn’t been without incident. Multiple times she had fought off everything from bandits, to corrupted warriors, and even a group of lizard men. Making her way into her room and sitting on the edge of her bed, she pulled out a bottle from her luggage containing pieces of the cursed blade. Seeing the fragments glow their eerie red, she was reminded that she still had many more pieces to retrieve before Soul Edge’s influence was erased from the world.

Just before the white-haired woman could stow away the fragments, they began to rapidly vibrate. Knowing what the reaction typically meant, she instinctively searched around the room. Hearing a creak from above, she grabbed her sword and let it strike like a snake towards the awning above her bed. Though the attack left a sizable hole in the fabric, whoever had been sitting their previously managed to leap out of the way at the last second. As the intruder jumped to the floor, Ivy readied herself for a counterattack.

Ivy’s fury was lessened upon seeing the woman’s familiar face mask and black hair tied up into a ponytail. If there were any lingering doubts about who she was, they were swiftly corrected by the view of the skintight, red bodysuit she wore. In spite of the multiple knives the woman held, including one emanating with evil aura, Ivy stowed her weapon and approached with more annoyance than rage.

“Taki, why did you break into my mansion?” Ivy asked. “We may not know each other that well, but it doesn’t look good for you to break into your ally’s home in the middle of the night.”

“Sorry, but this is an urgent manner,” Taki replied. “Your servants wouldn’t let me through and I’d rather not start off this deal with several of them dead.”

“A deal?” Ivy asked, gesturing towards a pair of chairs around a small table. “What kind of deal did you have in mind?”

“Aside from being a skilled fighter, I know that you’ve studied the effects of Soul Edge’s fragments on people,” Taki explained as she took the opposite chair.

Ivy let out a laugh. “That doesn’t add up to much. Aside from preying on a person’s base urges, the fragments can countless of things to them. Increase their strength. Corrupt their thoughts. Cause transformations. The list goes on.”

The usually stoic woman was noticeably shaken as she tapped her fingers along the table. “What about increasing a person’s appetite?”

“I suppose,” Ivy said with a raised eyebrow. “Would that be the only effect?”

“Well…there has also been signs of weight gain,” Taki admitted. “Far faster than the person’s normal metabolism would allow. It’s…worrying.”

Noticing the nervous look in Taki’s eyes, Ivy glanced beneath the table. Having been unable to see it in the room’s dim lighting, it was only now that she noticed the sizable bump sticking out of the ninja’s mid-section. At the center of the out of place pouch of fat was a Soul Edge shard lodged within the belly button.

“When did this happen?” Ivy asked as she pulled herself back up.

“I was with a group of other fighters to take down a group of bandits who had gathered up a collection of the shards,” Taki began. “In the midst of the battle, one of the shards got flown through the air and stuck itself in me. I’ve tried to remove it before, but each time it reacts with shocks of energy going through my body. Luckily the first time I tried it, the others were around to protect me while I recovered from the paralysis.”

“That’s probably for the best,” Ivy commented, getting up from her chair to get a closer inspection at the sword piece. “Pulling it out would probably do irreparable damage to your body.”

“Do you think you can remove it?” Taki asked, shuddering as Ivy gave her extra belly fat a squeeze.

“I’ll have to spend some time researching your condition,” Ivy replied as she stood back up. “For now, you’re free to stay at my mansion. Is there anything you need?”

A low growl emanated from Taki’s stomach.

“I…could use some food if that’s not too much to ask,” Taki replied.

Right on cue, there was a knock at the door. Stepping out to greet the servant, Ivy explained the situation as well as ordered another dish of food. Returning to the table with a few chunks of cheese and smoked meat, she placed them in front of Taki.

“I know this isn’t much, but it’s all I was really willing to eat when I returned,” Ivy explained as she sat back into her seat. “Don’t worry about holding yourself back for me. Go ahead and eat. I can hold out a little longer for the servants to bring my-“

Without even glancing at the knife or fork that had been laid out for her, Taki began to scarf down the meal. Chewing through the food like a rabid animal, the ninja seemed to lose sense of where she was. Looking into her eyes, all Ivy could see was a ravenous hunger tinged by a red glow. This feeding frenzy only came to a halt once Taki dropped the licked clean plate in front of her.

“Oh, um,” Taki said, looking like she had just been dropped into the room. “Sorry.”

“Hmm,” Ivy amused, resting a cheek in her hand as she looked between Taki’s face and the now larger belly bump. “This is going to be an interesting challenge.”
