Solaris Uncut

Tetley

Great outro James. Really enjoyed your thoughts on both the film's meaning and the filmmaking techniques. Plenty to deconstruct there. It's wild how exposed someone's humanity can become in the presence of Solaris. And to think how easily it picks the locks to your innermost thoughts and feelings - the things that you so carefully try to guard from anyone else, and especially yourself. And then how crudely it renders them back to you, almost seeking validation of its work by asking: is this what being a human is? Like a cat toying with a mouse in some ways. And the way Tarkovsky brings those ideas to life through his craft. Definitely a style that has been lost in time but if you have the patience it's such a rewarding experience watching those long takes. Especially when they're handled so well. Pure cinema ... and you versed it well.

Mentioned it before but I highly recommend "Ivan's Childhood" 1962 perhaps my favorite Andrei Tarkovsky film

Andrei Rublev 1966 and Mirror 1975 are also fantastic
