We are HERE! I'm excited to get through this season of The Wire. This has been something deeper than I ever could have imagined in the best of ways. Instantly rising to the top of shows I've watched in my life..let alone stories..let's get to it!\

TES

For me, when they introduced Marlo it was like when Game of Thrones they brought in Ramsey. Joffrey and Tywin are both evil, but they are emotional, can be somewhat contained, manipulated, etc. Ramsey wanted power, but more than anything he just loved being a sick piece of garbage. With Marlo, it feels like his goal isn't even to make money, it's just to be ruthless and on top of everyone else.

I love learning that Prop Joe knew Burrell in school and says that he was stone stupid. Nobody takes poor Burrell seriously. 🤣 You're not tripping. That was 'Fifty' one of Frank Sobotka's dock workers back in season 2. Devestating to see him homeless and living under a bridge like that. Bubbles wasn't in these 2 episodes, but that's the musician Steve Earle playing his sponsor Waylon. He's the one singing the season 5 version of the theme song.

Markus Burns

Yeah there is definitely a lot of plot developments going on at once so I can see how that could be confusing at times. Also Prop Joe and Butchy getting dropped off in the same episode? Damn that's rough. No country for old men type stuff lol

The Misanthrope

Small FYI: While the writers did such a god job you would barely ever notice this but the character development for McNulty is more tied to real life concerns: Dominic West for reasons that escape me right now needed to leave the show as protagonist at least so instead of a full write-off they settled on a far smaller role for him. Eventually he was back into the show full time so they thought a relapse would be a logical next step, it's super interesting than a relapse in the overall dirty way police operates as a numbers game causes a relapse on McNulty's obsessive behavior AND finally a relapse on his actual alcoholism.

Yours truly, Johnny Dollar

I think the implication was Scott Templeton didn't actually get that quote from Campbell, he just made it up after being shown up by the guy who was fired and couldn't publicly attribute it.

James Edwards

That white journalist dude made up the quote. @16:25 , you missed a very crucial character moment while giving us some thoughts.

Dillon H

Yo James, this episode in particular made me sure you are going to LOVE Tremé. It's the only other show that has come close to filling that Wire shaped hole in your heart when you finish. It was also made by David Simon and focuses on post Katrina New Orleans

Young Simba

That guy was the guy from season 2 drunk and homeless. Great catch. Took me like my 5th viewing to realize it lol
