The Gabagool has entered the building. Early reservations as we finally get into another big television series. A lot of bodies of work have derived from this one show, including ones that we've watched in this community..so let's see where things lead us.

Night King01

Man I want the finale reaction so bad 😂

Tom McTernan

These few episodes leading into the finale are really strong. I think they do a great job of playing the show's strengths like the acting performances (especially both James Gandolfini and Nancy Marchand - Livia's actress. RIP to them both), using abstract scenes to illustrate Tony's current mindstates, and touching on themes that are both plot relevant but also serve as a social commentary as well. But I especially like when they can do all of these things and string them together in a way that fills one single plot thru-line. For as much as I appreciate the show, I can sometimes struggle when on an episode-to-episode basis one doesn't exactly flow from one to the next. I have several such episodes in mind we haven't gotten to yet, but for example of one we have, "A Hit is a Hit" is the best that comes to mind. It can make it sometimes feel like more of a sitcom with a mob backdrop rather than a show driven by a single narrative. Again, not to say that I don't like or appreciate those episodes for what they are in a vacuum, it's just that within a context of narrative flow, they're a little disruptive. All that is to say, I guess, is that these last few episodes of the season DON'T have that problem for me and that's maybe why I like them more than the rest. The flowing narrative helps tremendously to the lead-up to the finale which I'm definitely looking forward to next week. Completely aside from that topic, I also want to say that I think that James is completely correct in saying that "Isabella" feels kind of like Mr. Robot. I know it's been said to death, but the Sopranos really is That Guy when it comes to influencing future television. It would not surprise me at all if Mr Robot took several notes from this show when creating Elliot's character. But the Sopranos also definitely isn't without its own inspirations and references to them. If anyone has seen the Godfather, and I know James has, you're probably familiar with oranges being an omen of death in those movies. So is it any wonder that just before a hit being carried out on him, Tony is caught on the street with a bottle of OJ in his hand? It's a great subtle detail, but it's not the only one in the show so it's worth keeping an eye out to try and catch them as you watch.

It's a good thing Junior's people hired two clowns and not Brother Mouzone. The Sopranos would have only had one season.

Pack up the babies and grab the old ladies...James is gonna sing pretty soon. 😊

Saltnlight

Looking forward to the next drop of episodes. 😬

I love the poster over Meadow and Antony Jr in the hospital. "Safe Families - Everybody needs one".

VooDooMaestro

If you dig the theme song its called "Woke Up This Morning" by A3. And Nas has a killer song that sampled it called "Got Ur Self A Gun". Both are Playlist worthy.
