This Sopranos season has been a blast! I'm already hyped for the next season and again, genuinely impressed by the human nature and character study that is happening within this series.

Night King01

Amazing performance from Vincent Pastore as Big Pussy. Some facts about him, he actually didnt get into acting until his early forties. He was already a successful nightclub owner in New York before he met Matt and Kevin Dillon who encouraged him to pick up acting. He went to acting school and started doing bit parts on films like Goodfellas and Carlitos Way. His big break came with the 1996 Gotti HBO film which led to getting cast on the sopranos along with other actors from that film such as Tony Sirico who plays Paulie and Dominick Chianese who plays Junior and some others who come in the show later. I still say this is the best casted show or movie I have ever seen. Not a single bad performance

Unfortunately Twin Peaks doesn't seem to get as much love (or at least attention) from reaction channel audiences as David Lynch's full-length films do, though I'd love to be wrong there, but I would love for you especially to watch and react to the whole Twin Peaks saga regardless. It is a massive deal not just within the confines of Lynch's works, but even just in TV in general. I bring it up here especially because the dream sequences in The Sopranos were directly inspired by Twin Peaks specifically.

Great reaction to an incredible episode. This episode shocked when it originally aired, because they dared to kill off Big Pussy. I love when Sopranos dives deep into Tony's subconscious through dream sequences, and this time with the twist that they're fever dreams. Tony being in touch with his subconscious has become such a powerful tool for him in terms of being a boss. He listened to his gut and he was right, Pussy was a rat and had to go.

Have you ever heard Got Urself a Gun by Nas? He sampled the theme song on his Stillmatic album. You might like it since the theme song is so catchy

the dream sequences in this show are just wild. What makes that dream hit is how it’s less about Pussy’s betrayal and more about Tony’s denial cracking. Pussy shows up not as a friend or an enemy but as both, which tells you Tony already knows the truth but can’t let himself consciously say it yet. And pussy as a talking fish is just hillarious

“Anyway, four dollars a pound.” 🐟

RIP Robert Redford, another legend gone. I'm so glad you reacted to Sneakers and All the President's Men, James. 💕

If any reactor was going to 'get' this episode i knew it would be james. The dream sequences are wild, but they work.

Sopranos dream sequences are legendary. So good. I love this episode for that. The slow unraveling of his psyche. The way the dreams start out vague, but get more and more focused on what's really on his mind. The constant creaking in the background. It's so good. There's another dream-heavy sequence in season 5 that's really good, too. Glad you're enjoying the show, I love geeking out about how in depth this show goes on the characters' psyches. Oh yeah, I think they have shown Tony's other sister, Barbara before, but she doesn't really get as much screen time as Janice, she kinda just pops up here and there. Her whole thing is that she was the only one who was able to get out and live a normal life.

You met Barbara (Tony’s younger sister) in one scene at the party in the season 2 pilot. They had a mini family reunion when Janice came to town and she spoke with Janice about letting Tony take care of their mom

Kana Kawase

I recall David Chase talking about the dream sequences in an interview once. He said that fans complained about the dream sequences earlier in the series, and he responded by doubling down and doing more, longer dream sequences. I think this episode is the one in question.

Thank you so much James! Here’s to season 3! It’s about to become a whole new beast, expanding on all the things you happen to love about it. I’ve never seen a show do it like this one, it’s unbelievable.

Derek Bell

I. Understand. Nothing.

Robert Lupia

You’re funny remembering names even after an entire season. First Darlene on Mr Robot but that took 3 seasons to realize it lmao now Ja Neese. As Tony would say “Itshh Janice! It’s fuckin Janice!” And the dude that kissed his cousin in The Godfather Part ll was Michael kissing his brother Fredo 😂

Randy Bowlin

The last montage, with Meadow's graduation party and all the human misery and vice that made it possible ... Tony's destructive wake. I think this sums up the show. These are terrible people, but we identify with them.

love how this show doesn’t flinch and lacks the cliche moral grey area trope common in anti hero stuff and straight up humanises the baddies while providing real and relevant emotional insights. Very effective. Love when villains are not justifiable but relatable.
