that spy music blending into "every step you take" has no business going that hard

Ugh... We get to THAT scene. Nancy Marchand had passed away between seasons and David Chase somehow felt that taking shots of her from the previous seasons and digitally inserting her head onto another actor's body was a good idea. I haven't watched your reaction yet, so I don't know how you feel about it, but I HATE that scene. It's so unnecessary and so uncomfortable and creepy. I especially hate it because the episode is so superb, otherwise. Might have been the best episode of the series, but that scene ruins it for me. I usually skip it on rewatches. That scene alone prevents me from saying that The Sopranos is the greatest TV series of all time. I would probably give that honor to The Wire, anyway, but that scene clinches it.

and yes, Nancy Marchand (Livia) died before filming for Season 3 began. they used existing footage / audio of Marchand + a body double

The Cagney film Tony was watching is The Public Enemy.

This season has some wonderful dark lighting. There is a slight tone shift after pussies death which leads to some awesome ominous undertones.

I love that season 3 opener, The Sopranos: The Wire.

At the end of the day they all mostly love eachother lol

Since you asked - It wasn't MY parents, but in the 70s my (white) aunt was dating a black man. My grandma sent my dad and uncle to the college town she was in to talk her out of it. They did the opposite, and my aunt wound up marrying him. She got written out of the will. Shit is wild.

So the story with dan grimaldi as Patsi Parisi was that he was in season 2 for that one episode as Philly Parisi. David Chase did not expect much for a bit part but he enjoyed Dan Grimaldi so much he used the old twin brother card which he did not like and would only do once. Which is how we got Patsi Parisi. Dan Grimaldis path to acting is a really interesting story. He was a computer science teacher until the acting bug bit him and he studied at the lee strassburg school. He actually still teaches computer science at a community college in New York I believe. He goes more in depth on the sopranos podcast which you should check out after finishing the show.

Yeah, RIP Nancy Marchand. Great actress. She had cancer, and insisted on acting til she dropped dead, which unfortunately happened between seasons 2 and 3. Originally the stolen airline ticket plot was supposed to last the whole season, but the writers had to scramble to change the story, hence the awkward CGI scene.

Carmella in episode 1 where she finds out the tennis instructor is leaving and being replaced with a woman. 🤣 We see it with Father Intintola in season 1, the contractor in season 2 and now with this guy. She sort of teases herself with the idea of having an affair but never goes through with it. You can tell she's jealous of Adrianna, not in a romantic way, but because she starts getting so much attention from the new instructor.

Nancy Marchand was hilarious as the Mayor of Los Angeles in The Naked Gun. "You killed 5 actors; good ones!" 😆
