Andor EP 3 Uncut

a cool note: the intro theme is different in every episode but if you play them together it creates the full andor theme! when you’re done with the season you should look it up on youtube. for season 2, each episode still has it’s own theme, but not only does the whole season’s themes play one piece together — each 3 episode arc can be played together for a unique piece. an incredible work of sound design and composition from nicholas britell throughout

one extra thing. you’ve mentioned how you want more contrast on ferrix and how you understand it makes CGI easier — but that’s the thing — it’s not CGI! they built out that entire street as a physical set (fully furnished too). i believe that it’s intentionally a bit drab, dreary, and cold, because that’s what ferrix is. and it makes the spots of color we do have, like the wall of work gloves, really pop. love your reaction and your analysis!

Quick note - I believe the Flashbacks are set during the mid/late prequel movie era. I can't remember the exact timing, but his childhood is either just before or during the Clone Wars. The insignia on those dead crew members in the flashback becomes the Insignia for the Confederation of Independent Systems

David Hollinger

Liam already mentioned it, but much of the sets in Andor are fully built sets. Andor's 2 combined seasons cost Disney/Lucasfilm more to make than any single Star Wars show or movie.

Yet another note - you'll learn this as the show goes on - there is no unified "Rebellion" or "Rebel Alliance" at this point. The slow growth of the disparate Rebel "Cells" in the galaxy into a single organized movement is what this show tells (in part) and the Animated show Star Wars: Rebels gives another perspective on that process.

I agree with what you said James, people definitely cared about making this! It's oozing with passion and no doubt alot of hard work!

I joined patreon specifically for this because of the cinematography and def wanted to hear your analysis. Don't get me wrong, the historical parallels and political themes are right up my alley, the writing is next level(imo), the spy\thriller genre is every I want in a show, and the sound design\music is perfect. But the cinematography is so good imo opinion. The DP really likes shots with a lot of leading lines(like the opening of this episode), they love trailing shots of the main character in the scene, beautiful close ups of characters, and scene composition, especially later on, that look like actual portraits. Just amazing cinematography & scene composition in my view.

I just want to say thanks for all the effort you put into the Patreon. I originally subbed for your Always Sunny reactions and honestly didn't expect to stick around after them. The rest of the shows you were watching at the time just weren't my cup of tea. But since then you've added so many amazing shows, so I gladly stuck around. Keep up the awesome work.

Love the various references you made throughout this episode; Avatar, The Wire, RDR2, etc. Excited to see you continue this series!

One thing about the 3 episode arcs: In season 1 you have this : Arc 1 - 1-3 Arc 2 - 4-6 Episode 7 is either stand alone or watch with Arc 3 Arc 3 - 8-10 Arc 4 - 11-12 Season 2 follows the 3 arc format exactly Welcome to Andor!

Andor is made by people with a vision. Unlike the recent movies, that were simply made by a corporation out to make a quick buck. The first trilogy was a huge part of my childhood in the 80’s, and Andor has revived my love for the Star Wars verse.

Just stopped by to say, GO SEAHAWKS!!! Also, GO BRONCOS!!! We'd be more than happy to kick their ass in the Super Bowl again. 🏈

"The sound of that voice telling you to stop, to go, to move. Telling you to die. Rings in the ear, doesn't it?" watching this series with whats going on in america right now is pretty crazy ngl

You couldn't have chosen a more appropriate time to watch this show. The parallels are insane

This show is so important, and only gets better. Joined the Patreon as soon as I saw you began watching it. Excited for more.

The Kernewek Penguin

Joined patron for this! Really refreshing seeing someone with a film background react and analyse it! Looking forward to more!!

I remember you not liking the "washed out" or under-contrast look of Andor and cited that it must be because of the special effects/cgi used in it. Actually, the look of Andor is contrasty/punchy (especially the Ferrix scenes). If it seems "washed out" to you is because you're likely watching this on a non-HDR capable monitor. Or (in the event you're watching this on a Mac), don't have the HDR feature turned on in the settings: SETTINGS > DISPLAYS > HIGH DYNAMIC RANGE. Andor displays in Dolby Vision for streaming streaming, while the 4K UHD disc set is presented in HDR10. If you ARE watching it on an HDR capable monitor, you'll need to change the monitor's inputs to HDR. The Dolby Vision on Disney+ is noticeably less contrasty than the HDR10 discs. The reds, oranges, and golds are REALLY RICH in HDR10 while on Ferrix. It makes Ferrix seem even more earthy and gritty. I highly recommend the purchasing of the Blu Ray/4k Blu Ray of this series if you have either a HDR-compatible monitor or TV. THE COLORS......WOW!!!

I never blamed the Kenari kids for failing to intervene before their leader was killed....mainly because the indigenous tribe is so primitive they probably had no idea what a blaster was and what the intent of the Imperial guy would be.....as the audience we know more than the kids....we know that those on that ship are up to no good because they never are...plus we see no adults around and that the kids are wearing like repurposed clothing, are using blow darts, and Cassian doesn't really seem to know technology and doesn't even know Basic (English) annnnd he hasn't really seen a clear image of his reflection before....so to me, this shows the innocent nature and the completely unprepared nature of this planet/ tribe of the Empire bearing down on them....like with America....the Indigenous people were not ready or comprehending of the British colonizers...it is very reflective of this. I also think Maarva's reasoning for taking Cassian was pretty straightforward....she knows how awful the Republic/Empire are....she knows that they were landing in mere minutes and when they saw that one of their officers was killed by the kids with blow darts, she said it would be "open season" on those kids...meaning that the Republic would go in and kill every person they found, meaning Cassian would likely have been killed....so she took the only opportunity she had to save his child's life....although, kidnapping a child from his home planet against his will while sedating him does not seem to be the best thing to do, but it doesn't seem like Cassian harbors any ill will towards her for this....plus she only had moments to make the decision...she didn't have time to explain it to Cassian, especially since he was a child who didn't understand their language. Fun fact...the actor that played a young Cassian "Kassa" has said that it was Diego Luna - Cassian - who hand picked him to play the younger version of him...he also spent a lot of time with the actor, helping him learn English and was a mentor to him on set...since Diego was also an EP on the show he was pretty much the go-to person on set every day to be the liaison between the studio/writers/directors and the actors.
