This has been a journey...feel like I said all I needed to say at the end of the video, but damn this show was an awesome ride. The Breaking Bad Universe proved to be a magnum opus of television and I cannot wait to uncover more of the behind the scenes of this show.

On to Succession!

🤝 it's been a ride

Sweeeet! Thanks, James for the hard work. Been a fun ride!

Jacob

what a journey, watching it through with james and the community makes it my 3rd rewatch and it’s gotten better everytime. Love the content can’t wait for succession

George Ray

James it's been an honor watching you on this journey from Breaking Bad to Better Call Saul you definitely opened my eyes on certain filmmaking aspects I never noticed before so thank you. I know you've already chosen another show but I want to recommend shows like Six Feet Under, Twin Peaks and The Leftovers for their writing and filmmaking aspects hope you get to those one day, thanks again for all the great content!

Breaking Bad ended with a bang! BCS ended with a whimper... The diamonds? Worst Macguffin ever. Covid must have turned the writers' brains to mush, enabling them to create long, boring ass, time wasting subplots that simultaneously seem rushed. Quite a feat. The lazy, shared ciggie against the wall trope doesn't make up for any of the other b.s. either. Mocking and insulting a loyal audience isn't cool.

joseph clay

What good timing! I just watched 11x12

BCS is a better show than BB in most, if not all, aspects of storytelling. That's not a shade at BB either; it's remarkable that a prequel to such an esteemed series not only didn't suck, as most continuations do, but it topped the predecessor.

James... thank you for your insight and meaningful commentary. I've had a blast with you and I went back to the very beginning and rewatched the everything to prepare for this moment. It's been great. Thank you for taking my recommendation to react to the Ozymandias trailer before the episode in Breaking Bad, and shouting out my comment "Breaking Bad has the better STORY, and Better Call Saul has the better STORYTELLING." I hope you take my last recommendation to heart in crafting a 3-4 hour video breaking down all of the different aspects of this universe: color, characters, storytelling, morality, etc. etc. etc.. I really do think the challenge would be exciting for you and allow you a chance to fully unpack both series before moving on to the next chapter of your channel with a clean palate. I edited a trailer for the Breaking Bad universe a little while back. You don't have to react to it, but if you could give it a few minutes of your time, that'd be cool. You can find it here: https://youtu.be/AnUpz_7iH24?si=TyYqw4tlD7V0gUUe Either way, I appreciate you as a fellow human being and as a fellow man. Keep being genuine. Stay encouraged.

The end of an era for sure loved this show so much, if your not aware Vince Gilligan (who made Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul) and Rhea Seehorn (who played Kim) are working on a totally new show not many details are known yet but thay have said it has sifi elements so be on the lookout in the future, I know I'll be watching day one!

Matt

Goodbye Saul, Hello Friend 🤖

Linda

Thank God Succession is coming up. 🔥

Deirdre K

I’ve seen The Sopranos, Breaking Bad, The Wire, and Succession. Better Call Saul remains at the top of my list. Unmatched storytelling! Thanks for the ride!

Truly an incredible series. Makes it so when you rewatch Breaking Bad, it completely puts Walter and Saul in a different perspective. Makes me see Walter as just a bulldozer, as you get to see how robust and deep the Gus empire is/was. And it makes you see the performance Saul was putting on as a really deep and damaged person who flattened himself into a cartoon character for coping purposes.

Tim Martin

Saul starts out Breaking Bad and he ends up Baking Bread.

Thanks for the journey, James! Some have ranked this episode as the best in the Breaking Bad universe, which is certainly a compliment to everyone involved considering its the 125th episode. Truly is a travesty that this show won 0 of its 53 nominations. Even the fan-service moments with Mike, Walt and Chuck are integral to the overall theme of the episode, Jimmy coming to terms with his regrets. That call-back to Episode 1 with the smoking scene at the end gave me chills! If you are interested in behind the scenes content, there is some BTS stuff, but I'd really recommend to you the Insider Podcast which was done for both shows, created by one of the editors (the one who made like all the montages in BB!) and featuring a variety of guests producers, cast & crew. Bryan Cranston (who also directed some BB episodes somehow) is great when he's on it.

Brian Sittler

Thanks for all the great reactions!

I love hearing what you have to say about my two favorite shows because it gives me a lot of insight into things I never noticed when watching. This has been an amazing journey watching these shows with you and I love your channel. There truely is no other show like better call saul and like you said its above and too good to win awards. This show really inspires creativity in me to explore the world through new lenses and you also helped play a part in that.

babyspoot

I came to your patreon because BCS is my favorite show and I could tell you show appreciation to good art. It was a trip rewatching this with you. On to Succession! Another one of my favorites!

When I first watched as it originally aired, this finale felt like 3 episodes with how much stuff is packed in, absolutely zero filler. Great series... Bravo Vince!

Kara

Incredible finale, I cry every time. It's been a joy rewatching with you. I don't have enough words to express how much I loved this finale and the show / BB universe as a whole. It's a perfect ending to a hell of a thing. If they never make anything else, it's perfect. If Vince and Peter Gould and the crew choose to return some day, I will follow them anywhere. I've added a bunch of my favorite random things about the finale below: When Walt is talking about regrets in the flashback, it focuses on the watch Jesse gave him for his birthday. The implication is obvious: Walt's "time machine" regret is Jesse. Kim will never be a lawyer again (no state will bar her after her confession) but she can still use her knowledge and skills to help vulnerable people legally. It's what she wanted to do in the first place. "Saul Goodman" is prison-famous. He probably got half the people in there out of jail or reduced sentences. It's a twisted reward: he desperately wants to be James McGill but he made himself too famous as Saul Goodman, and that's how people see him forever, for better and worse. Also Jimmy's job in prison is baking bread, almost the same as Gene's Cinnabon job. Hmmmm. Of the 3 main characters, 1 dies (Walt), 1 gets away (Jesse) and 1 gets caught (Jimmy). It's poetic. Seeing Marie was awesome (and Blanca too). She's the only character who didn't get closure - we know that Skyler White got 'her deal'. Marie finally gets to see someone brought to justice for their role in Hank's death. Good for the actress too. Mike's regret is his 'original sin' - the first time he took a bribe, which he believes is the choice that put him on the "bad choice road". Mike believes nobody will ever change. Chuck says over and over that Jimmy will never change. Walt's entire arc was about accepting who he 'really was' and dying on his own terms. Walt tells Jimmy he was "always like this" and there's no hope for him to change. And then, against all odds, after getting the most incredible sentence reduction ever, Jimmy blows it all up and proves that he CAN change. He defies every expectation AND the thematic reality of the Breaking Bad universe as a whole. One last show, one last scam - this time on the universe. Jimmy will die in prison, but he dies more free than he's been since the moment Lalo capped Howard. "Kim left, but I'm the one who ran away". He finally stopped running, literally and figuratively. And Kim has a chance at some form of redemption. It's the happiest ending we could cope for, given the circumstances.

Hey, I saw that you wanted some behind the scene type stuff for Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. I would say two must see behind the scene stuff for Better Call Saul would be "Series Adjourned: Saying Goodbye To Saul" and "Fear and Loathing In Omaha: The World Of Gene Takavic". If you want more, I can go back over the bonus features for the previous seasons. I never got around to watching them all when I got the Blu Ray collection, and I'd love an excuse to go watch them all.

Michael Proch

I just arrived in Albuquerque today, I’ll be having some tequila and watching this to celebrate

Kaitlin

This is one of the best romance stories I’ve ever seen on TV. I love this show so much. “All Things Are Possible” always makes me teary eyed. They stuck the landing. Thanks for going on this ride, James! Always a joy to watch someone experience this! 😊

Cody Pavy

Fantastic video to conclude a fantastic journey James. Thanks for letting us rock with you along the way 🙏 These shows truly are special and it’s been a treat to revisit them once more with you. As always your commentary and analysis is probably my favorite of any reactor I’m so damn happy that you’ve jumped into Mr Robot because it makes me feel less melancholy about this wonderful series ending

Brandon

Not a big deal, but one thing that always bugged me was that only 2 years had gone by between Jimmy meeting Walter White and this last episode of Better Call Saul. It seems like a really small amount of time for so much stuff to happen, including Jimmy being on the run for a significant portion of time. I always sort of assumed that since Breaking Bad ended in 2013 and Saul ended in 2022 that 9 years had passed between the ending of Breaking Bad and all of the present day scenes in black and white. It seemed strange to me to write the story with very little time having passed when so much time had passed in real life. It doesn't make the series worse, and in the end I still think it was slightly better than Breaking Bad.

Andy Luke

I remember Amazon had this to buy 8 hours before it came on Netflix and I couldn't wait. So I put on your Uncut. I'd not seen it since then and half-forgot the cameos but particularly Cranston. It made sense beyond fan-service with Walt's role in the finale of Saul and Kim's story. What a phenomenal episode. Gonna shut up now because I want to read the rest of the comments!

Parker Holmes

Gonna miss new episodes from this universe. Looking forward to succession and hopefully the wire or sopranos after. Thanks for the good times james!

Rockstarrzz

What a wild ride, been a honour watching along with you man. I truly cannot see anything surpassing these shows for me, they're just so perfect on a cosmic level and endlessly rewatchable. Such a bittersweet ending 😢

Yess... Cuban B

Omg... Thanks for taking this Journey with us Brother. The Expanse is another banger.

Andrew R

The ride is over ladies and gentlemen. Now what I am going to do on Sunday afternoons? It was a good ride.

Jorge Hernandez

What I got from Jimmy's choice to confess is that it was for the sake of keeping things even with Kim. He mocked her for not going to the police and when he heard she actually did Jimmy admired her for taking the steps he never could. And even though they weren't married anymore, I think Jimmy felt that he wanted to walk down the same path with Kim, together.

Boomzone

What an incredible ending to this journey. Thank you James for all the good vibes and attention you gave to this show it really showed your love for film and i agree that there is some kind of magic hidden there. Awesome ride! Reach for greatness

pkleo73

In the intro, I appreciated that you called it all 'a piece of literature'. and you said it too...how good Jimmy is. Hes the survivor. Lalo said it too. The cockroaches. And its got AALLLL the awards in the book far as Im concerned. Thnx James. Its been a real pleasure. I really enjoy your commentary on anything you watch. This BB and BCS haul has been no different. So happy you finally got to experience all of it...in little over a year..As Saul once said, its been one hell of a ride..

dana

Loved and resonated with the outro so much, thank you so much James for all your work. Onto Succession! :D

Thall

That Air Marshalls stare... perfect encapsulation of Dragonball Z Abridgeds: "Now, I know you're playing me... and I do want you to talk"

Elle Durden

It was a love story all along. Kim and Jimmy are my favorite fictional couple of all time. I hope they stay in touch for as long as both are alive. Now that this ride is over, I cannot wait for you to start on Succession! Its another crazy, unpredictable ride. Lets gooo!

Bennslife

This episode got me emotional. Truely sets the standard on how to write the perfect ending to the perfect show
