Yippee, Chapter 6 is done for real! This pair of log pages features updated colored art of a Talita-adapted ASL alphabet that I drew a long time ago while I was originally planning out the plot of this book.

I'll be taking a break to catch up on non-book stuff for about 3 weeks and then starting chapter 7 mid-January. See you in the new year.

What prewar country colonized what became the Socialist Republic for it have a different sign language, or had it simply been long enough for it to diverge from ASL?

I love this. Especially the details of Talita figuring out which part of a sign is most important for her adapted version.

It's so good to see Talita enjoying herself here. : ) I'm rereading "The Calculus Diaries" and there's a good quote of a Native American proverb in it: "Tell me and I'll forget. Show me and I may not remember. Involve me, and I'll understand." Talita is being involved and loved at the same time. How will she ever forget this?

i really do love all the detail and thought put into this chart and artwork and i've used it to learn how to sign my name (yippee!). their interactions are fun too but respectfully? the interactions make it a bit hard read, at least to me 😫 i think it'd be easier to read if the speech bubbles were kept inside the blue space? might be a tight fit tho. or maybe if they were in grayscale (bluescale) rather than fully colored will make it easier to focus on the hands.

Wait so does Talita sign C with both thumbs or only one? It ended up a bit unclear here
