Germs can hitch a ride on anything. While I am pretty sure there are sterilization procedures in place, something can always slip through. Life, as we know, finds a way to fuck up your day. If materials are not sensitive to radiation you could sterilize stuff simply by storing it in a part of the ship without radiation shielding.

So this is making me wonder how much medical school covers alien species in this world . . . let's say for Jovian qualifications. I mean, I assume that it's mostly a set of specialty fields, but, say, do all doctors need to learn a bit of basic check-up/first aid stuff for other species? Also, what's this doctor character's name?
