Talita’s relationship with her own people must be so strange. To feel so othered by those who raised you, and yet you’re even more alien to “your people” than you are to humans. There must be this strange push and pull of wanting to know more about where you come from, yet not relating to the culture at all. Willing to bet international adoption cases feel similar sometimes, but at least their adoptive and biological parents are the same species.
