Why the Soviets disliked the Matilda II

The Matilda II also called "The Queen of the Desert" was a British Infantry Tank in World War 2 that also served on the Eastern Front with the Red Army. About 1/3 of all Maltida II were shipped to the Soviet Union. The Soviets liked the armor, but had serious issues with the lack of mobility and particularly firepower. For some reason this is the prototypical infantry tank in my mind ... Despite not having he rounds available.... The infantry tank concept is somewhat logic and interesting in itself. A design item I wrestled with was on havin a modern vehicle crawl at infantry pace. This is usually achieved with a manually operated accelerator which basically will keep the engine just a bit above idle. This also has the advantage that allows for a higher idle speed setting to be set by the driver if needed. It also allows for significantly less noise, which is good too However because of the low rpm, the engine might have trouble to deliver high torque, in case the driver needs to get moving quick. Crawling with infantry is all fun until you need to get out of the way or the need for getting somewhere at speed. This might involve precious seconds and shifting. Additionally, because of the low torque availability, you might get slowed down by obstacles, again needing attention from the driver. This weakness is often exploited on ambushes
