Why did the Wehrmacht Soldier keep fighting til 1945?

Why didn't the fighting spirit of the Wehrmacht soldiers break before 1945? The Allies assumed it would break in 1944, but it didn't. There are several factors to consider. »» SUPPORT MHV «« » patreon - https://www.patreon.com/mhv » paypal donation - https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=TFHEY4P4YU3NY »» MERCHANDISE - SPOILS OF WAR «« » shop - https://www.redbubble.com/people/mhvis/shop »» SOCIAL MEDIA «« » minds.com - https://www.minds.com/militaryhistoryvisualized » facebook - https://www.facebook.com/milhistoryvisualized/ » twitter - https://twitter.com/MilHiVisualized » twitch - https://www.twitch.tv/militaryhistoryvisualized » RallyPoint - https://www.rallypoint.com/organizations/military-history-visualized » tumblr - http://militaryhistoryvisualized.tumblr.com/ Military History Vlogs is a support channel to Military History Visualized with a focus personal accounts, answering questions that arose on the main channel and showcasing events like visiting museums, using equipment or military hardware. » SOURCES « Das Deutsche Reich und der Zweite Weltkrieg – Band 9 / 1 – Deutsche Kriegsgesellschaft 1939 bis 1945 Amazon.de link (affiliate): http://amzn.to/2DXObnq Das Deutsche Reich und der Zweite Weltkrieg – Band 9 / 2 - Deutsche Kriegsgesellschaft 1939 bis 1945 Amazon.de link (affiliate): http://amzn.to/2EZovpT Citino, Robert M.: The Wehrmacht Retreats: Fighting a Lost War, 1943 Amazon.com (affiliate): http://amzn.to/2rtOdkm Amazon.de (affiliate): http://amzn.to/2mWaTEp Sebastian Junger: Why veterans miss war » DISCLAIMER « Amazon Associates Program: “Bernhard Kast is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to amazon.com.”

Very Good. Your studio is getting better and it looks really smooth ;). I also have heard the argument that the NSDP "conned" a large amount of the German population and that by the time they wanted out it was too late. They were left with "no options". It may sound like avoiding responsibility, but when you see the news today... and then it was a little of cognitive dissinance . I think also the professionalism and stoicism are a bit of German things, even today. The expression "es hilft (alles) nix" is in y opinion an exmplpe

thx, got some foam to reduce reverb. yeah, once a war started it is hard to stop see WW1. Totally agree, the amount of responsibility seems to be pretty similar now and then. Although, it is hard to determine since some people just don't have the time / capacities to look "deeper".

Were there examples in WW2 of the German Army surrendering on a large scale ahead of time even though they could have fought on ? I'm thinking of 'Tunisgrad' 1943. Or. did they usually keep fighting to the bitter end, and only surrender when there was no hope or rescue or break-out? (as in Stalingrad where they were cut off, surrounded, and starved of food, fuel and ammunition)

well, in 1945, a large amount surrendered "in the West". Fighting to the bitter end is relative, one author stated that only the Japanese fought to the last men and bullet, everyone else mostly talked about it. About "Tunisgrad" I need to look deeper, but without supplies in a desert region, uhm well. Large amount of prisoners create logistical problems as well, so better surrender with some supplies left.
