Since Summer last year, I get an increasing amount of sponsoring offers. And if you watch various other channels, you probably have seen quite some of those sponsors I declined. (Usually those offers include example videos from various channels, so I am mostly aware of them.)

So far my doctrine was that I only take a sponsoring that fits the channel and it doesn't "maul" my video.  This means, that quite some sponsors are off the table. As a result I only took the Great Courses Plus. Additionally, sponsored videos are provided as additional content to the regular Visualized videos since 2018. (See the latest Sun Tzu Video)

Now, recently I got some offers (in one case again) that would actually fit my channel, because I know that many of you know the products already as do I. Besides my own concerns, there is also the fact that you guys pay me, as such I would like to here your thoughts / votes on this issue. I provided several options, if an option doesn't show up, please add a comment, thank you!

Note: Sponsorships means money changes hands and an explicit "ad"/placement is shown in the video, whereas "support" means that products (books, games, etc.) and/or special access (interview, facilities, etc.) was granted, but no money was provided.

All I can say is make sure the sponsorships are of at least a decent product. Please do not sponsor mobile phone games and have a code that gives '500 silver' or whatever for it. Pick the games appropriately, one's that at least have some prestige behind them.

As above, your judgement should be sound enough.

I pay because I like the content and want more of it. If sponsorship enables more content i'm for it, though I must admit I do approve of your stance on only accepting sponsorships which you feel fit the channel

I like your work and trust your judgement so do what you need to do to pay the bills and buy a beer or two when the day is over.

Short plugs would be best. Even if you do one short at beginning and one short in middle. It's the long winded commercials that I think make people move along. For example, YouTube is great, but I get so tired of the long commercial breaks that I hardly get on youtube anymore. But like Ronald, You have to pay the bills. Love the work!

I voted that I don't like it, but in reality I don't mind. I will stop donating once you are monetized, however.

Thank you for your answer. I am a bit confused, what do you mean with "monetized", since that term is usually only used for videos with ads on them. Additionally, sponsorships are also just for one video every few months/years. Thus, I don' know what you mean with "me being monetized". Could you elaborate?

I voted „I don't want ...“, as i generally feel a significant aversion against advertisement. Additional a sponsored Information always leaves a dubious aftertaste for me. But I understand that it can be a need for you, so as long as the sponsoring doesn‘t maul or interrupt the video and you are convinced that the sponsoring did not affect the quality of the content, i think it would still be ok for me. As long as the advertisement is not for the lowest of things, or is in a big contrast to the content of the video, i don‘t see a big difference between the games and info products.

I basically try to aim at something like the Sun Tzu videos, short notice that it is sponsored, which is required by law anyway and then at the end a roll. Also I intended to use only products & services I think are worth it.

I agree with much of all that. I take its difficult, but for instance I drop off the slingshot channel because of this and some Lindy Beige Videos get very annoying. Unfortunately cannot suggest a better model

I expected that YouTube would recover from the adcopalypse, but it didn't so far (at least not for me), I basically cancelled most of the plans visiting stuff for 2017. Trips to Bovington etc. are great, but they are quite an investment, without you - my patreons - I wouldn't be able to continue the channel at this level.
