Panzergrenadiere 1944: Mission & Cooperation with Tanks #FromTheArchives

Let's look at a manual for Panzergrenadiere (gepanzert (armored)) from 1944. I will discuss the differences between the Panzergrenadiere and their origin as Motorschützen (motorized riflemen) and then taking a closer look at their mission and cooperation with tanks according to the manual. Additionally, there is a short look at a weapon description about the Infantergiegeschütz 33 from the manual as well. I attended a fascinating lecture at GenCon 2001 in which the focus was on how could a '41 Panzer Division with 36 operating tanks could smash through Soviet Infanty and Tank Divisions.... and that was without these insights on PanzerGrenadiers..........what would they have done with them!!!

Military History Visualized

well, a '41 Panzer Division clearly had some Panzergrenadiers with them, unless they were all worn down already. A '41 Pz Div. should have had 1 Schützenbrigade with 2 Schützen Regiments and 1 Kradschützen Battalion. Each Regiment had 2 Schützen Battalions, so a total of 4, of which 1 should have been armored.
