Never heard of Rzhev Meat Grinder? Here is why...

The Battles for the Rzhev Salient are usually only covered "on the side" when it comes to Eastern Front both in Soviet/Russian and German literature. This of course begs the question: Why? Of course, some note ideological reasons, yet at a closer look this does explain some aspects of it, yet does not really hold at all for the German side. So, why are the Rzehv Battles forgotten? »» SUPPORT MHV «« » paypal donation - https://paypal.me/mhvis » patreon - https://www.patreon.com/mhv » subscribe star - https://www.subscribestar.com/mhv » Book Wishlist https://www.amazon.de/gp/registry/wishlist/3LJIXNJIUXJES/ref=cm_wl_huc_view »» MERCHANDISE - SPOILS OF WAR «« » shop - https://www.redbubble.com/people/mhvis/shop » SOURCES « Gerasimova, Svetlana: The Rzhev Slaughterhouse. Mindblowing. It's such a great feeling of still being able to learn new things, though the story is more than 70 years old. I hope You will be able to put an episode about operations in Leningrad and Baltic States in the future!

Military History Visualized

yeah, currently reading up on the plans to attack Leningrad in 1942, previously I thought it was mostly a side-show, yet the numbers are quite interesting that it was planned (and prepared!) as a serious operation even during Case Blue.

So neglected a campaign... I had heard of it as "Operation Mars" and a chapter was given over to it in the marvellous weekly part series "Purnells History of The Second World War" Sadly my copy of this work was damaged in a flood some years ago. Thank you for bringing back the history. PS I see that its available on ebay for GBP 20 at the moment... for me the postage would be the killer
