Rommel: The Italian Perspective

So what did the Italians think about Erwin Rommel also known as the "Desert Fox" (Wüstenfuchs)? For this Bastian Matteo Scianna looked into various sources including British wire-tapping and interrogation reports, additionally also memoirs. After all the Italians fought with the Afrika Korps, yet, there is rarely any mention about the Italian perspective. »» SUPPORT MHV «« » paypal donation - https://paypal.me/mhvis » patreon - https://www.patreon.com/mhv » subscribe star - https://www.subscribestar.com/mhv » Book Wishlist https://www.amazon.de/gp/registry/wishlist/3LJIXNJIUXJES/ref=cm_wl_huc_view?language=en_GB »» MERCHANDISE - SPOILS OF WAR «« » teespring - https://teespring.com/stores/military-history-visualized » redbubble - https://www.redbubble.com/people/mhvis/shop » SOURCES « Scianna, Bastian Matteo: Rommel Almighty? I really enjoyed this Italian perspective on Rommel. While Rommel has often been criticized for his neglect of logistics, I often thought that his use of his Italian troops was negligent as well. Given their inferior equipment, lack of modern training and substandard officer corps, he seems to have spent little time in trying to improve their overall performance. While he experienced equipment problems as well, even a small amount of modern equipment in Italian hands would have a significant impact on Italian performance and morale. As an example on the British side in the Western Desert, the arrival of Grant and Sherman tanks significantly improved British morale and effectiveness.

glad you liked it! Well, at one point it is noted that you only got respect from Rommel, once you performed, I wouldn't be particularly surprised about that, we still have this attitude "here". I certainly have. Well, officially, he is subordinate to the Italian High Command, so in the strict sense, "it was no his job". Well, the comparison between the British & Italians with Grants and Shermans is not suitable in my opinion, since the Allies had A LOT OF equipment, unlike the Axis. I mean here have a few hundred tanks was something the US could do and the Soviet Union as well, other powers less so.
