Pak 36: The most effective Doorknocker @DasPanzermuseum

The 3,7-cm-Pak 36 is rather infamous for its inability to deal with heavy and well-armored medium Allied Tanks in France 1940 and the Soviet Union in 1941. Although, when used in France the troops in some cases were very happy with it. In this video we look at its history, capabilities, reception by the troops and aspects like crew positioning and training. If possible primary sources like original German Army Regulations were used as sources. Disclaimer: I was invited by the Panzermuseum Munster in 2020. It is curious that production of the Pak36 was continued after 1940, when it was already known that it was obsolete as an anti-tank gun. Could it be that it was more relied upon for it's use as a weapon to deal with emplacements, rather than anti-tank duties? Side question: I have read that the Pz II was tested with a 37mm gun; have you come across any info on this, or would the Panzer Museum have any documentation about it? Thanks.

Yet another great, informative video! What I found most interesting was what appeared to be the primary use of the gun during the war: As support to infantry against hardened defenses and soft-skinned or lightly armored targets. The numbers from the invasion of France are particularly compelling. I also found the use of special ammunition ("stielgranate") to penetrate thicker armor quite interesting, as I was unfamiliar with the details of that type of ammunition. Do you have any numbers on how many numbers of this type of ammo were produced, however? Thanks again!

sorry for the late answer, I have missed this one. Looking at the low war-time production numbers: "In September 1939 Hahn notes that 11 200 were in service. War time production was generally low, in 1939 1229 were produced, in 1940 2713, in 1941 1365 and finally for 1942 a mere 32. Yet, the production of replacement barrels was continued. " My assumption is that those were basically just replacements nothing more, also it worked against light tanks, e.g., T-26 or BT-7 as well. About the Pz II with a 37mm gun, I did not come across it, but wouldn't be surprised. As far as I know the Panzermuseum does not have its own archive yet.

thank you, sadly I didn't come across any numbers on the Stielgranate, there might be something out there and if I come across, I might add it here, if I remember.
