OK, here is a point: Germany has apr. 100 PzH2000 in service, but also apr. 40 in storage. Actually, from the overall delivered 185, apr. 40 were transferred to another country. The point is, that while not delivering 100 pieces, the delivery of 20 or so from storage (!) shouldn't be a problem in terms of capability loss, in the timeframe, until new systems could be delivered. If Germany has an issue with "not enough" artillery, while fileding 100 of the PzH2000's, then what artilleristic capabilities do all of the other NATO countries have, aside from the U.S. (i.e. no one is fielding such numbers of a similarly capable artilleristic system)?! I think that the scope of the given report is just for what was provided, as example, during an excercise (Germany sends way to badly equipped forces to those), and not on the overall material situation. They might also mean the lack of artillery ammo, and not the guns\systems themselves, which is another problem.

As far as I understood it the benefit of Multiple Round Simultaneous Impact (MRSI) is not that there is no warning before the first impact, but that overall effect of the entire salvo is higher, since the first shell detonating has very little value as a warning sign, thus the soldiers fired at by the salvo can't take cover and the entire salvo can have the maximal effect. Hence it would be correct to say that there is no warning before the last impact. - Although one must ad that "simultaneous" actually means within 1 or 1.5 seconds. So it is not a perfect simultaneity. - This actually links to one point you made in the past in some video on artillery (I think), when you said that the effect of taking cover is usually underestimated. And it is precisely this effect that MRSI tries to hinder. If a salvo arrives within 5 seconds, one has 1.25 s between each shot. With MRSI the entire salvo arrives in this timeframe. - With regard to warning before impact: I am absolutely no expert with regard to this question. In principle I assume that a MRSI-salvo is probably easier to detect than a single shot. But in practice I guess that this can be neglected, thus the warning before impact should be identical between a single shot, conventional salvo and MRSI-salvo.

> 100 PzH2000 in service, but also apr. 40 in storage. > Actually, from the overall delivered 185, apr. 40 were transferred > to another country. I have seen absolutely no source that Germany has anything in storage. Quite on the contrary. Your calculation assumes: that since 1998 there was not a single PzH 2000 lost, removed from service, cannibalized, etc. You also assume that every sale was documented and that none of these countries lost any. For the Netherlands 57 were purchased, one source note they have 56 now another 54. If the latter is correct, this is a "loss rate" of about 5 %. Also, it seems that the Netherlands sends less than 10 although they have 38 in storage. There is a reason for this, I guess: using them for spare parts, etc.
