Ukraine & German Politicians: Doves, Hawks & Delayers

In this video we look at the different positions of German politicians and the war in Ukraine. Besides the chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD), we also look at foreign minister Baerbock (Grüne), defense minister Lambrecht (SPD), minister of economics Habeck (Grüne) and the chairwoman of the defense committee Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann. We also touch on the opposition leader Friedrich Merz (CDU) and his visit to Ukraine. Additionally, we also talk about heavy weapons, immediate versus delayed support, training times on the Gepard etc. Pictures used in Cover: Richard Bartz, Munich aka Makro Freak: Porträt eines Steinadlers, CC BY-SA 2.5, https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.5/deed.de https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steinadler#/media/Datei:Steinadler_Aquila_chrysaetos_closeup2_Richard_Bartz.jpg Cordcs: Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, 2019, CC BY-SA 4.0, https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/, https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marie-Agnes_Strack-Zimmermann#/media/Datei:Marie-Agnes_Strack-Zimmermann_Portrait_2019.jpg Mummelgrummel: Eine weiße Taube auf der Mauer des "Castell de Montjuic"., https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/deed.en, https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Barcelona_August_2014_-_Castell_de_Montjuic_023.jpg Pictures used in Video: Christine Lambrecht at defense ministerial meetings at NATO headquarters in Brussels, Belgium, Feb. 16, 2022 Creative Commons Attribution 2.0 Generic license; U.S. Secretary of Defense https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Christine_Lambrecht_220216-D-TT977-0386_(51885643496)_(cropped).jpg Originial: https://www.flickr.com/photos/secdef/51885643496/ Photo Habeck: https://www.robert-habeck.de/wp-content/uploads/Robert_Habeck_Pressefoto_Nadine_Stegemann.jpg - Copyright Nadine Stegemann 00:00 Intro 00:42 German Politicians Overview 01:12 German Coalition & Initial Actions 03:16 Delays 05:30 Green Support for Ukraine 06:23 Different Communication Styles 07:06 German Legacy: Russian Oil & Gas 09:26 Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann & Defense Committee 11:35 Immediate vs Delayed Support 15:22 Training Times 18:41 Heavy Weapons Delivery 22:25 The Opposition: Friedrich Merz's Visit to Kyiv 25:55 Summary »» GET OUR BOOKS «« » The Assault Platoon of the Grenadier-Company November 1944 (StG 44) - http://sturmzug.com » Army Regulation Medium Panzer Company 1941 - http://www.hdv470-7.com »» SUPPORT MHV «« » patreon, see videos early (adfree) - https://www.patreon.com/join/mhv » subscribe star - https://www.subscribestar.com/mhv » paypal donation - https://paypal.me/mhvis »» MERCHANDISE «« » teespring - https://teespring.com/stores/military-history-visualized » SOURCES « Our brains #germany, #ukraine, #politics

That was an interesting perspective. It still seems like a bad idea for Germany to get so involved. Half of the Russians still have not gotten over WW2, and they are openly talking about using nukes. Then there is the loss of the hardware itself. What happens if it does not help Ukraine anyway, and Germany needs the hardware? Maybe the Russians really have decided to rebuild the Soviet Union, and there really is no other way.

In regards to "muscle memory" and the adequacy of training; there's 'trained', and then there's 'competent'. The later *always* takes time.

from what I have seen about talks on Russian state TV and also other information, it seems that the Russians are the one speaking constantly about escalation, attacking other countries, etc. it seems more like "not getting involved" is really an option.
