Ukraine Veteran: Leopard 1 preferable over Leopard 2

Ukraine is soon to receive 110 Leopard 1 (likely the variant 1A5). A German combat engineer fighting with the Legion in Ukraine explains why he thinks that the Leopard 1 is preferable over the Leopard 2 due to various reasons that are often missed. Additionally, we also look at some basic features of the Leopard 1. My personal take is that a revolution in tank Design is coming and it's almost unstoppable. What we are seeing in Ukraine is sort of pitting different generations of weapons design against each other, funny enought used in ways the doctrine driven design of the time never intended. Sure, the pre wars plan do not survive contact with the enemy, which just adds to everything. We are sort of stuck with the Fulda gap Design, the reason being the money and how design works, on small increments from the past. Late 70s and early 80s tank Design concepts have been upgraded by adding more and better but since the Irak war and Afghanistan, the military is looking for something else. Functionally as well as logistically, as operations are rarely on a division level or even brigade, being more often than not detachments smaller than a company. Yet, requirements have keep piling up, wanting this vehicles to do a bit of everything, ironically putting more strain on logistics. Current trend of "modular" vehicles with swappable Armour applique and all end up with heavy weights, poor direct visibility and slow manouver. Which then has to be compensated for. Then again, these expensive vehicles are used as a small detachment but I'd you need a significant amount of them, costs are very high. And that is without going into the systems used in the vehicles. Hopefully the current events will shake a little both the doctrinal requirements but also the engineering side and... Possibly most importantly, the allocated funds
