Dricus Du Plessis and the Tozi Stack - Slacky's Film Room

I don't own any of this footage and this video isn't monetized. Be cool

These are my favorite videos. While watching a card a few weeks ago, I realized just how much I've learned from the Renan Barao of Slagging Off Cows. The level on which I can enjoy this sport (and others, like pure grappling, boxing, etc.) has skyrocketed. I wish I could grapple myself, but this video shows why someone with a history of concussions and whiplash definitely should not do that. Man would it be fun though!

Oh, a quick question, if I may: how do you see what I started to call "power grappling" developing in and changing MMA? I'm sure there's an actual term for it, but I don't know. Dricus provides a good example here. We're seeing only a small handful of the best fighters finally starting to really effectively mix pure grappling techniques with what MMA allows. Guys like Fluffy Hernandez (where's he been??) mix constant threats of submissions with great g-n-p (and pace). Dricus overpowers guys, manipulates them into great g-n-p positions, and threatens with a submission when needed. Etc. This is something I first started thinking about months ago, when watching one of my favorite grappling matches: Barnett versus Lister at Metamoris. Not an MMA fight, but showed the importance of power and the wrestling technique that's missing from too many bjj guys and grappling in general. Bjj has been getting much better at mixing it in at the highest levels, but I feel like we're still not seeing enough of it in MMA, at least once things hit the mat.

Curious as to what the pro's/con's of doing the biceps post/ZombieProof version is as opposed to leading with the reverse crossface/reverse collar tie https://youtu.be/GkkZ0PE-w-I

It’s cool how both Dricus and Islam are both really good at ground and pound from half guard.

Mike Fowler came to our gym and showed a guard break that was similar but less brutal. I think you mentioned it briefly but he broke the feet apart by circling around to the side and then switching his hips to expose the feet and step into half guard. Watching him do this against our coach (Richie Martinez) and other good rubber guard players was interesting because like the Ryan Hall footage it seems to be kind of negated by rubber guard. Was wondering what were thoughts were for using this style of pass against effective rubber guard players.

I remember trying the toezi, guy I rolled with asked me wtf I was doing. Haven’t tried it since

Patrick

Great detailed breakdown, but I was hoping we'd be getting a filmroom on the tactical advantages of Joker makeup since it's Cong Wang fight week

What do you mean where's Fluffy been? He just almost murdered Michel Pereira like 5 months ago and has a fight with Brendan Allen scheduled for this month.
