Was waiting for this one

Your first Walcott article made me a fan of boxing generally. I get pissed off knowing most of Fightland's articles are missing now.

Outstanding

Mangai

Many of em are still accessible via webarchive fortunately if you can find a link somewhere

I used to spar my mate, he was a former youth champion, I was a pleb who just liked boxing - i got beat up every week Once, though, I landed the jersey Joe shuffle rear hand on him absolutely clean, had him hook line and sinker Just had to tell someone

Hey Jack. I love the articles. Im so glad that you are going to back to them. It would help though if you could add gifs of the moves you are breaking down as well as the drawings. I know that adds more work for you but it provides a more comprehensive understanding of the motion as well as the steps that go into creating that motion. Keep it up though. Loving this return to classic form

Dogfood Studios

specifically it multiplies the amount of work by the number of frames in the gif.

Roumenov

lol be realistic bro, he's not an animator

Mctalkypants

You know that he embedded gifs in his articles for fight land right?

Jack Slack

Thanks dude! I don’t use gifs or even stills for the advanced striking studies because I think they’re going to be my lasting work and if I ever want to publish them I own all the images etc

Jack Slack

Definitely still using gifs in preview stuff. Post fight stuff the ufc get weird about

Ryan

It's the Jersey Joe Walcott of taking pants off when balls hot, Jack Slack.

Drakes Cakes

Oh I'm so excited to dig into this one. Thanks pappy slacky

Mctalkypants

Ah yeah fair enough. So one day we are going to get the Slacky Compendium of Advanced Striking. This is something to look forward too

Onta Dojo

I agree that this one, which is so based on movement, timing, and flow, could really use some gifs. The ufc stuff I understand, but classic boxing like this I doubt anyone's enforcing the copyright. They're practically public domain.

idris

Hey jack can we get some stuff about lyoto/more karatekas? On a big tangent missed the last boicast could you give some really good specific and general bjj instructionals for beginners. Also the same for wrestling

Jarodd Paige

I wish there was more film on Jersey Joe Walcott. He had one of the most unique styles in boxing history

Hey Jack! Great article on the cross step! I noticed there's similarity with the footwork in Bagua, especially when Joe Cross steps then quick turn to throw his southpaw left as a lead. I saw it in this vid https://youtu.be/dHXMPto1Uqo?si=sOEKRBCad7hMJzHN about 2:52 he asks the Bagua man why they go in circles and at 6:00, the Bagua master does the cross step into the pivot like Jersey Joe! They throw other strikes or throws from this position/pivot but it's very similar to me. Wondering what you think!

Will be altering my class structure to reading articles from the Slacky backy log. Everyone will share my enthusiasm for random niche shit, or not understand what I do to them in spars (kidding, knd of). Thank you, Jack, for being a constant source of fun and useful fight knowledge. I really learned to experiment and analyze by following your works, a modicum of my development is owed to papa Slack, from as far back as your writings before you were independent. You really are the Ilia Topouria (spelling?) of researching skillia for ya. Bless.
