Hey babes!

I'm writing this because I miss hearing from you and would love to read how you're doing! Leave a comment and though I may not respond right away I will reply! <3

I'm finding it important lately to stop and gather myself in an environment of my choosing. So as a follow up question (if you like) I'm curious to learn what your stratagems have been lately.

Self care is something that can take a backseat to Anxiety and Depression during The Holidays™ and especially New Years™

Sometimes just identifying sources of Anxiety can be nice. It legitimizes difficult feelings, and I think of advice I might give a good friend in a similar position.

Anyway, I'm rambling. Hope you're doing well! ^_^

It's funny you say that, because lately I've been handing out a lot of support and advice to my friends-- their holiday seasons are a lot rougher than mine. Caring for others has always been one of my favorite forms of self care, because it helps me put my own problems into context and (along the lines of what you said) I can keep that advice in mind if or when I find myself in a similar situation. Also? Cooking. LOTS of cooking. One of my resolutions is to cook more and rely on eating out/pre-made stuff less, and I'm getting an early start on it.

Thank you so much for asking. I am a therapist and spend so much time inviting others to tell me how they are, and want that invitation for myself, too. I've been struggling with some health stuff lately - a mystery I'm working with 3 doctors to try to unravel - and it's definitely impacting my functioning at work and at home. It's discouraging to have no answers and very little symptom relief after 3 months of testing and ruling out and trying stuff.

Whoops, didn't finish before hitting enter! I ended up taking 4 weeks off from work to make self care my job. I made a chart to track stuff like eating, taking meds, exercise, social stuff, creative stuff. And it became very easy to see how the thing I find the most healing (being creative) is the thing I let myself do the least. So I have tried to be more purposeful in setting aside time for art/crafts.

Happy holidays, love! I'm doing remarkably well, actually. Taking lots of time with the people I love and relaxing. I've actually gotten a new story idea, so I'm doing some research for that. What happens to the mentally ill in a soft-apocalyptic setting? We'll find out! Overall I'm just taking this end of the year time to recenter myself for the coming year, and trying not to feel guilty when so many people are struggling so hard. YOU know.

I love love love love love cooking. It's honestly been a few weeks since I've cooked owing to a Family Staycation. I miss it! What I love about cooking is the more you do it the better you are at it. I'm at the point where I can wing most meals, but have enough skill and confidence that it typically turns out either good, or great! I'm also in a similar situation regarding support to others, excepted I'm pretty let down by it. My resolution going into January is 1) Take a brief social break and then 2) be more social and make more/new friends. I've been struggling with loneliness and invisibility.

I'm so sorry to hear about the health issues! I was in a very similar boat before I had my tendonitis diagnosed. Spent most of this year in pain, waiting to hear from doctors, jumping medical hoops, not getting results. Totally makes an impact on your day to day well-being. I'm still healing/recovering but it is a very. slow. process. But just like you, I'm good at prioritizing my needs now. If we hadn't developed an ability to take self care seriously? gadzooks we'd have been on the news! haha! ^_^ I want to get back into tracking those kind of things too. I haven't taken my bullet journal too seriously lately! Thanks for reminding me! <3

Oh wow! What a neat idea! I'm actually in a pretty good place myself and similarly have been pursuing some pretty wild ideas. I live for those extra safe moments when we allow ourselves to DREAM BIG. I'm actually going to be posting the fruit of one such labor later today! <3 I take it this is a writing project?

That sounds like a good plan! I've been making a big push to branch out into more trans spaces and build up my support network (and help be a part of other people's support network), but it can be pretty exhausting. Taking a break to build up your reserves every now and then is paramount.

J

I hear that! I often find myself feeling a bit untethered when I go without the company of other Trans folk for too long. On the same token, I've also found I need a surplus of spoons when engaged in Trans spaces. So often it feels like things can turn on a dime where one friend is doing fine, and another has a major life crisis that that they need help with. I guess that's probably true everywhere, huh?

It is indeed. The world I'm writing in has been under development for several years of latenight bullshit sessions LOL but this is a new avenue of exploration in it.
