Hi Evie! Just letting you know Outlander 8x9 airs on May 8th and 8x10 on May 15. In case, you need to adjust your calendar.

EveV

Oh shoot really?? Thanks for telling me haha I’ll fix the schedule tonight😊

Tom

For a Sopranos replacement, I’d go with The Wire or Sons of Anarchy. Both are among the greatest shows ever made and came out during the Golden Age of Television from 1999 to 2015. The Wire in particular is often considered as good as, if not better than, Breaking Bad. It’s a deep, thorough analysis of how crime operates in Baltimore, shown through multiple lenses like the drug trade, ports and unions, city government, the school system, and print media. It tracks several groups from different backgrounds and classes, weaving their stories together by showing how their lives intersect across these systems. The show was also ahead of its time. It was ā€œwokeā€ a decade before wokeness became a thing. It’s one of the most diverse shows ever made, yet it never feels forced. Even though it critiques the system and deals with issues like race, it never comes across as preachy or anti-White. It’s just an honest, real portrayal of life within that system, which is why it’s so widely respected across the political spectrum. As for Sons of Anarchy, it's essentially a modern reworking of Shakespeare’s Hamlet, but instead of medieval Europe with kings, courts, and armies on horseback, it’s set in a small American town and follows an outlaw motorcycle club. The bikes replace horses while the club itself functions like a kingdom, with a royal family, hierarchy and constant struggles over loyalty, succession, and control. Lastly, I would like to throw out one curveball and suggest the show Hannibal (2013–2015), based on the popular books Hannibal and Red Dragon, about the relationship between Dr. Hannibal Lecter (psychiatrist and serial killer) and Will Graham (a gifted young FBI profiler). This show is not as well known and loved as the other two shows I mentioned. It kind of flew under the radar because it was released on network TV (NBC), and that was the wrong audience for it. Even though it was marketed as just another standard procedural crime drama, it really wasn’t. It was so much more than that, and that was just too much for the average network TV viewer. Its style, themes, tone, and complex storytelling were better suited for an HBO or FX audience, so being on NBC it became a niche show with a small hardcore fanbase. Despite the low ratings, it was critically acclaimed and received high reviews. It was a prestige show and it really is quite good. A bit artsy and experimental at times, but very well made and visually stunning. It’s a sophisticated, high-concept psychological crime drama/thriller/horror.

Yes!!!! I love New Blood, not so much Resurrection haha but trying to come to terms with its existence!

Six Feet Under would be good, it stars Michael C Hall in a totally different light

Please put Mad Men up as an option !

Eric Viola

Nah Mad Men before all of that

Tom

Mad Men is boring. Not bad, just not a show I feel any need to revisit, especially through reaction videos. There are no scenes or twists powerful enough to provoke much of a reaction, nothing I’m particularly eager or curious to see someone else experience for the first time.

Eric Viola

Yeah that's a really embarrassing take but understandable if you have Marvel brain. The idea that there needs to be an explosion or a murder or super powers for it to be considered powerful or a twist. Really, really, really dumb. It's the greatest TV drama of all time lol.

Tom

I don’t have Marvel brain. I don’t like Marvel movies. I’d even go so far as to say I hate most of them. There are only a handful I can tolerate. I prefer adult dramas. It seems you misunderstood my criticism. I’m not saying I didn’t enjoy Mad Men. I’m saying I wouldn’t enjoy watching someone react to it. It’s simply not that kind of show.

Eric Viola

You should watch LM Reactions reactions to it that they did over the last year. It was very, very entertaining.

Tom

I did. I’ve been a fan of LMReactions for years. In fact, watching their reactions is what led to my original comment about Mad Men. Since I am a huge fan of their channel and really like their insightful takes, and since I also enjoyed Mad Men itself, naturally I started watching their reaction to it. But I found myself never really looking forward to the episodes the way I did with shows like Mr. Robot, Breaking Bad, or The Wire. Eventually, I just stopped watching. The last episode I saw was 2x11. I always intended to go back and catch up, but I constantly find myself putting it off, and I think that alone says something. Mad Men may be a good show, but it simply is not the kind of show that lends itself particularly well to reaction videos.

Eric Viola

Couldn't disagree more. I would check out the rest of their reactions if you really think it's a good show. But I think what is not making you want to see reactions to Mad Men is that you just don't think it's a great show. And again, to your original point: a show doesn't need murder or super powers or explosions for it to be a powerful scene. That's such a baby brain take. There are incredibly powerful and unexpected scenes in MM.

Tom

I never said a show needs murder, superpowers, or explosions to be compelling. But some shows are simply more viscerally exciting than others. They thrive on twists, reveals, turning points, and moments of payoff that make you eager to watch someone else experience them for the first time. That is what makes certain series especially good for reaction videos. I do not really remember Mad Men having many moments like that. There are some, obviously, but nothing that is consistently built around big reveals or shocking turns. The show is much more cerebral and understated than that. The brilliance of the show I would say is more cumulative rather than explosive. It gradually creates a mood and is more about character psychology, subtext, atmosphere, etc. There are memorable scenes, of course, but not many singular ā€œholy shitā€ moments that define the experience. The effect of the show is more diffuse. It seems to me that you simply can't handle the fact that someone has a different opinion than you. If they don't share the same opinion they must be stupid. That seems more like a baby brained take.

Eric Viola

I would watch LM react to it if you really believe that. Also if you don't remember Mad Men why are you commenting on whether or not it would be a good show to react to lol. Rewatch the show then you can have an opinion on it. But if you barely even remember it then why say anything. And btw you're just wrong on it not having incredible moments.

Am I the only one that feels like Boardwalk Empire needs to get some love sometime? I think the first few Seasons are just as good as The Sopranos. Very similar, and a lot of the same actors.
