Love this movie! So glad you got to watch it! It's definitely on a list of my favourites. I was too little in 1984 to go see it in the theatre, but I think I watched it for the first time when I was about 10 and loved it immediately. (It was the edited for TV version, so no nudity or swearing! 😁) I've watched it many times since then and love it every time. I'm a hopeless romantic, so the fact that Kyle essentially fell in love with Sarah while looking at a picture of her where she was thinking about him, makes my gooey heart cry. 😭😁 When Reese said he came through time for her because he loves her, you wondered if they'd met somehow before. But I just think he'd fallen in love with the legend of her, and the hint of sadness he'd seen in her picture. Then he met her, and fell quickly for the real her. Yep, "Come with me if you want to live." was started with this movie - it reappears in other films in the franchise. I've watched the first 4 movies (I believe there are 6?) And REALLY loved the first 3. I didn't dislike the 4th one, just didn't like it as much. Some people don't like the third one, but I thought the story was really interesting within the lore of the franchise. Anyway, hope you get a chance to watch the others. If nothing else, definitely watch the second one, it's fabulous. I've heard other reactors say that they hate the sort of techno/synth feel of the score in this film, that it annoys them. But I love it! It's quintessential 80s for sure, but it suits the vibe of the film perfectly, I think. All of the action is amazing, the car chases are phenomenal. And even though some of the stop motion effects are a bit cheesy, they were pretty revolutionary for the time. And the practical, robotic effects of the terminator when he's down to just his metal skeleton are excellent, and terrifying! 😱 All the reactors that I've watched this movie with, are totally surprised that Arnold is the bad guy. So you're not alone. 😁 But this was one of his very early movies and he wasn't very well known yet, certainly not the action hero everyone knows him as now. Great reaction as always. Thoroughly enjoyed it. ❤️ P.S. Yes, you really could get people's addresses from a phone book. Not everyone chose to include their address, but lots of people did. Which seems unbelievable to me now, but hey - this was also an era where women used to just let door-to-door salesmen into their houses while they were home alone during the day. 😲 I couldn't even IMAGINE doing that now.

No. Kyle Never met Sarah. He fell in Love with an ideal/idea, and a photograph. John probz stoked those fires with stories of Sarah to Kyle as Kyle came up in John's Company's ranks. All until John gave Kyle that picture sometime in the alternate 2020s (alternate to our 2020s). The photo only cemented Kyle's Love and resolve to come back to 1984 and meet Sarah for real. As John knew it would........... I've always *loved* this idea, falling in Love with just an idea and a picture, something that people now have a hangup about, but I still don't, I find it profoundly beautiful🤷 (maybe I shouldn't?) Oh, and yeah; ''Come with me if you wanna live'' does come from this film. Forty years later, and it's still one of the best/most famous, and most used lines in sci-fi movie history.

T-2 (Judgment Day) is about the only other worthwhile film in this franchise, especially the extended/unrated cut (it expands on Kyle and Sarah's feelings towards one another, etc among other things)....

Yeah John sending Kyle back is a classic time travel bootstrap paradox. Always fun in time travel stories, IMO.

I actually wasn't born when the first one came out. I saw the 2nd movie first . But the 2nd movie so good. I went back and seen the first one. Definitely seen terminator more than 20 times. 2nd movie better than the first. For people who say sequels are bad. They can't sat that with terminator 2.

I never thought about the timeloop thing . But everybody changes what they think about time travel so you could be right evie. I think adult Connor sent adult Reese to past to stop him from . Hurting his mother protecting the future . I think them making John was just an accident maybe 🤔. The movie holds up after all these years that's why people say terminator one of the greatest movies of all time.

I was 14 when this movie came out, but I can’t remember if I saw it in the theaters or when it came out on video. It was probably rated R so I must’ve seen it on video. Times were so different back then. My Mom would tell my brother and me when we were kids to go outside and play on a Saturday morning and not come home until the street lights came on or she would call us for dinner. Yes, she would stick her head out the door and call our names to come home. We were usually in the neighbor’s backyard playing with the kids who lived there. It’s hard to believe we could get addresses from the phone book. You had a choice of not being in the phone book at all, just your name and phone number or name, number and address. When watching movies before cell phones and someone wanted your number, you would hear people say “I’m in the book” I agree with Linda and I love that Kyle came back for Sarah and John gave him the picture of her knowing that Kyle is his father and that he dies when he goes back. I was not as smart as you and didn’t figure out that Kyle was going to end up being John’s father until they slept together. You are correct in your thoughts that Kyle was born after the war and grew up fighting the machines, he met John and learned a lot from him and respected him never knowing John was his son. He goes back in time and conceives John before dying (which I hate!) I had such a crush on Kyle when I first saw the movie. He’s so cute. Anyway, he dies, but you start to see the strength in Sarah and then Kyle is born after the war and meets John and gets sent back in this circle over and over. The whole time travel thing is pretty interesting. I remember watching something when someone goes back in time to fix something and gets help from his friends from a few years earlier. They changed some events over a few days, but nothing that would make a huge difference. His friend and wife had conceived their son during this time and they didn’t make love at the same time because they had to fix something so the couple made love the next night. They end up fixing the problem, I don’t remember what, but when the one guy goes back to his own time, his friends have a daughter instead of a son and he is the only person who knows because the timeline was changed. That completely fried my brain because I never thought of that. The couple conceived their child on a different day so it was different sperm etc. what a mind warp and I think of that when I see movies like this about going back in time and conceiving a baby. How can they guarantee that the child will be a boy and be the man who grows up to be this leader named John Connor? I guess in this universe it will always be John Connor as long as it’s Sarah and Kyle. I think it’s sweet and sad that Kyle always wondered what she was thinking about in the picture and she was thinking of him 🥲

I remember using the phone book a few times but I never realized you could get the address, it seems crazy to think lol but I guess it was a different time :)

Phone books still give the address along with name and phone number. "Come with me if you want to live."
