Who among us didn't think of Dan as a jerk in the early episodes? His evolution into a relatable, likeable character is just as key as the growth of every other member of the cast - Lucifer, Chloe, Amenadiel, Maze, etc. Clearly a main part of this series!

It certainly was a massive character arc, our Daniel. At first he really was a douche as Lucifer correctly discerned, but he grew and we got to see his light overcome his darkness. As to being puzzled by Lucifer or Maze not killing Lameche - we had a clue in what Lucifer was going to do to Malcolm before Amenadiel interrupted him back in Season 1. Lucifer replied to Malcolm in a very powerful, threatening way "no I'm not going to send you back to hell, I am going to bring it to you" And the audience thinks he means beat the physical crap out of him, but what if Lucifer can say something, or in some way bring a person's guilt to the surface and make them live in hell while still alive? So Lameche gets arrested and goes to prison, which is it's own hell, but if Lucifer can deliver a mental hell to him by something he whispers in his ear, that might be more punishment than just straight to hell.... At least that is what I thought when I too puzzled at Lameche being left alive on first watching.... The same way Amenadiel was able to deliver comfort and inspiration to both Dan, when Charlotte was killed by placing his hand on Dan's chest and telling him she was in Heaven; or when Amenadiel just recently gave Ella comfort and inspiration to overcome her darkness. I would have bet money Lucifer can do the same to bring a person's darkness and guilt to the surface... Anyway, keep the tissues on standby for the finale....

I think it might even go back to the very first episode and a lot of others inbetween, where Lucifer brought varying degrees of mental torture (or whatever exactly it is) to the different bad guys (remember how the producer guy from the pilot was completely deranged when Chloe visited him afterwards?). But even without any of that, seeing those two just casually rip through your entire team with nothing but knives probably would be enough to make you think about your life choices ...

I can't explain why as I am wary of giving spoilers but you gave an extremely insightful review of this episode. I was tearful again watching with you... every time it gets me right in the gut. 100% was the others above say about this episode and Dan's development, the way the writers created that love/hate relationship around him but slowly made us all care about him was so cleverly done and they took their time about it so it crept up on us as we watched Dan navigate all that he had done in the past and then accomplished in trying to be better. Just a funny note about his death - yes- really, at the time of writing and filming this episode, everyone involved thought that this was going to be the finale season. Knowing this, Kevin Alejandro (Dan) asked the writers to kill him off and give him a dramatic but realistic end to his story arc. However, during filming the finale (of the season as they thought) Netflix asked for a season 6! Poor Kevin Alejandro and the writers realised he had been technically written himself out of another full season! I leave that one for you to think about! The writers have said on a few occasions that they have never changed the ending of the series as they had planned it but being given a season 6 ( Not long now!) just allowed them to cut the last pages from the season 5 finale script (It was going to be a montage) and use those pages as an outline to get to the end of the Lucifer story as they wanted but with expanding the how, the when and the whys. You'll understand when you see the finale and then on into season 6. I loved it all. I hope you will. BTW I hope the SPN season finale didn't make you cry as well!

Rip Dan good father Solid character . Since the next season is the last I feel like that might be the reason for Dan's death. Dan an maze having that guy killed by the Mob. That's the only reason I feel he didn't go to heaven . He still had guilt from that . Great acting by the actress playing Trixie. An the last episodebefore the season finale is usually the setup up for finale. So bad stuff can happen .

I feel like the height of Dan was the Charlotte story then they really didn't use him after that . This the most shocking death since Tara on Buffy. Anya on the Buffy season finale . Both shocking deaths to loveable characters.
