For me this episode is rather a lowlight of the season. Lucifer, as you said yourself, is just trying too hard. And while that's good acting, somewhat fitting to his personality ("somewhat" because he's been getting better over time) and still engaging on a first watch, it just feels sad and skippable on a rewatch. And the Amenadiel storyline seems to me like the showrunners / writers themselves tried too hard. I've never been to the USA, so I don't know how it is there, maybe it's a fitting representation. But to me it just seems over the top. That detectives idiotic stupidity with that easterbunny line and his apparent determination to interpret clues in the most illogical way possible, that makes you wonder how he's able to keep his job even ignoring any racism or brutality charges. And Harris' defeatist standpoint of cursing the system instead of using it to her advantages. "There's the battle and then there's the war" - and if not for Amenadiels efforts, even the battle would have been lost, the murder stayed unsolved and Michaela(?) ended up dead. By staying a cop she's also staying under the command of the very people she distrusts and thinks of as uncaring or even racist. She may be able to do a couple little things, but never outright oppose their lead. Taking the raise to detective, even if somewhere on the outskirts, would have meant to take a position of power herself. Instead of the odd trainee she tries to teach she could have a bunch of cops "under" her, who she could direct and teach. She might have risen further and be able to return to her "hood", but with actual power to change something. In short it's a typical case of complaining about the status quo but not spending the effort of trying to change it when given the chance. That said, I'm glad Lucifer and Rory finally seemed to come a bit closer with that final song and am looking forward to the final four episodes of unperturbed fun and happiness ... or something like that ... :)

Nice reaction! So Amenadiel sees a need for change in the system, sort of paralleling the change in the celestial system Lucifer wants to champion.🤕

I loved this episode. I loved seeing Luci trying so hard- too hard to try and make up to his daughter for not being in her life but, you were right, I think, she didn't want material things but really wanted a connection that she felt she never had with her father. I agree the song at the end with Rory and Luci was perfect , not only in its execution but also that it was through music that Luci and she were finally able to begin to make that connection. The racist storyline, I thought was well handled and having a call back to a previous episode with Caleb was a good touch. I am glad that they visited this topic and were not afraid to do so. I think it would have been less believable if Amenadiel, a black cop, trying to do a good job didn't encounter it. All the police procedurals in the series so far have been very formulaic ( not a criticism as it is what it is) so a little more of a gritty modern story, I felt was a good move. I wonder now if Amenadiel will want to continue as a cop if he feels unable to do more. Maybe Dan was right and Amenadiel's skill set, talent and celestial knowledge could be used in a better way or will he persevere in the police force, after all he and Harris do seem to make a good team! The emotions came through for you again in this episode and you said this season keeps making you cry- Mmm, let's see what the last four episodes bring!
