Same Time Next Tuesday - Announcement trailer (Patreon)
Content
As I teased a couple weeks ago, I have been working on a Joe-centered story, titled 'Same Time Next Tuesday'. However, I never said this would be my next comic...
Same Time Next Tuesday will be told as a visual novel, using three (more on that later) therapy sessions as a framing device. The story jumps between Joe and Horacio's discussion at the latter's office, and Joe's narrated flashbacks, with the pair occasionally cutting in as literal talking heads to comment on the events.
I assume you guys have a lot of questions, and I'll try to anticipate them:
Q: Why a visual novel and not a comic?A: I have been workshopping a Joe-centered spin-off for a couple years now, and I thought having Joe recount the events to his therapist as a framing device was a (pardon the pun) novel concept. That would be, however, a lot of dialogue for a comic, most of which would most likely be not very visually engaging shot-reverse shot conversations at the office. The longer I thought about it, the more fitting I found the format, which easily accommodates a lot of text and reusable assets.
Q: So the weekly comics are cancelled then?A: Not at all! As patrons know I'm working on a new comic as well, covering another highly requested plot, with page 1 going up this Saturday.
Q: When did you find the time to work on this?A: As you guys know I work way ahead of time. I finished Outclassed 2 in late 2025 to start work on STNT and the next comic simultaneously, seeing how well my schedule adapts to taking on an additional project. Turns out, I can handle a 10-15 minute monthly update on top of other responsibilities, especially now that a lot of the initial work is done.
Q: What will be the release schedule?A: Updates will go up the last or second to last Tuesday of the month. Sessions are roughly 40-60 minutes of reading time, so that's roughly four updates per session. HOWEVER, I will take a break month in between main sessions to do the sprites and write the full script for the next batch of updates. Doing the math, this project will take about two years to finish, if all goes well.
Q: As cool as this looks, that sounds like a lot of additional work, on top of paying out of your pocket to commission artists, musicians and editors. Is there a way we can help, and do we get something out of it?A: Why yes! I will be introducing a new tier that gives patrons VN updates a month ahead of time, as well as their name in the credits, access to behind the scenes material and high quality versions of the assets. Expect more on that soon! I wanted everyone to be informed that changes are coming before I make them.Just a heads up: what's currently called the 'All the Way' tier will be renamed to 'Full Mast', but you will continue getting the same content for the same price if you choose not to upgrade. If it were up to me I'd keep the names the same and add a new tier called 'Balls Deep' to include everything, but Patreon is not cool like that anymore, sorry.
Q: What does the first update (available next week) cover?A: The first update will cover Session 0, a 10-15 minute long excerpt from one of Joe's sessions before the start of the story, which fleshes Joe out a bit, establishes his goals in therapy, and works as an introduction to the characters and events of the previous comics to put newcomers up to speed. For full transparency, the trailer shows footage of session 0 and the start of session 1, so some of the content in the trailer will appear in April's update.
I would of course be amiss not to mention the friends helping out with this project. Nemo is editing the script, BurntToast is making the music, Chocolate&Milk is making the 2D backgrounds, and Wattson helped out implementing the animated mouth script he wrote for RenPy and with general consultation on the engine. All super talented people and I suggest checking out their work (and throwing them a buck or two if you can).
I hope you're as excited as I am. This is a project I've been dreaming of working on for years and I'm very grateful for your support so far, which has helped make it possible. If you have any questions for topics I haven't covered, you're more than welcome to ask below.
Lots of love,Nanoff
