Them cheeks tho.

Shoutout to Jazzals for my favourite of many, many edits from our Pocketionary segment this week.

17 of these, hey? These blogs are nearly old enough to drink. And what better way to celebrate their 18th birthday than with a birthday stream! Well, not one for them, but hey, I guess they're invited. Ok, I really need to stop talking about an inanimate weekly blog like it's alive. But it does raise a good point - what's happening to The Back Log next week considering we have a stream all day Saturday? Well, my current plan is to put it out the Monday following the anniversary stream (Sep 4th). This will allow us to get all our ducks in a row re: goals achieved and such, and also gives everyone (including myself) some time to recover from the marathon that was. But that's next week. You're here to know what happened this week, aren't you?

THIS WEEK ON BACK POCKET

Back Pocket Tonight ft. the return of Reapz!
We got our favourite quizmaster, Reapz, back in the studio this week! And it was a mammoth week of gaming news, so naturally we thought what better way to approach it with our own Trailer Park Theatre of all the gamescom announcements! We also couldn't simply let the giant news of Charles Martinet, the voice of Mario, stepping down pass us by, so we had a bit of a chat about that too. Plus, we introduced a new segment, the very-much-not-Pictionary-inspired Pocketionary (and the source of many a #creative meme). And of course, it wouldn't be Back Pocket without What We've Been Playing, this week featuring The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Immortals of Aveum, Aussie-developed Jumplight Odyssey and Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew.

PocketBuds - Hello World, This Is Me
That's right baby, Ruby interviewed the freaking Saddle Club, and even became an honorary member! If you were a '00s kid like me and freaked out when you heard this news, you'll love the episode, so I highly recommend giving it a listen to activate some delightful nostalgia brainwaves. In the Patreon-exclusive bonus episode, Ruby took a further deep dive into the smorgasbord of video-game horses...

Oh, and Gus thinks we should free the birds! Our second episode of Hard Agree went up this week too, and it's genuinely hilarious.

Socials - Two Good Games Go to War
In classic social media fashion, this week we stoked an unnecessary war between two unequivocally amazing games, Tears of the Kingdom and Baldur's Gate 3. Plus, there's a couple of excerpts from our two podcast episodes this week - expect a few more of these going forward as we try to get the pods into the ears of everyone we can!

NEXT WEEK ON BACK POCKET

It's finally here - the week of our Back Pocket 3rd Anniversary stream! Of course, this means there will be no Thursday stream this week - all our energy is directed on delivering you the best anniversary celebration we can. Join us from around 10am AEST next Saturday for a day of absolute madness. The studio will be full to the brim, I'll be there, everyone will be there! And you better be there too. Free up your day as well, because we'll be going long. Maybe even more than 12 hours...

And then on the podcast feeds this week, we have our final pilot episode of Hard Agree, featuring the genius of Peter on this occasion, as well as Steph Panecasio joining Ruby as the guest on our regular weekly podcast episode! So yeah, it's gonna be a banger week of Back Pocket.

---

Alright - you got all that? I know., it's a hectic time, and it's only gonna get more exciting next weekend with not only our big ol' livestream, but the early access of this small game called Starfield coming out. And did you know PAX is only a bit over a month away? So rest up, hydrate and make sure you're prepared as the year starts to heat up, both figuratively and quite literally for us Aussies. I'll chat to you all on the other side of the anniversary!

- Ben :)
