something interesting for you guys to look at: same pic, two different scanners.

So I told you I'm currently using a different scanner. well, Hubby had another scanner, some gigantic super pro (and super old) photoscanner. we are talking Scuzzy Connector old, like holy shot. That things weights more than me...and I wish I could get rid of it. But it was really expensive when my husband bought it and he swears by the scan quality....which he's not wrong, tbh.

so we did two test scans, to make sure the darn thing is even still compatible (Pro tip. If you have an old scanner and no driver for your modern computer, check out VUE SCAN by HAMRICK. It's absolutely worth your money if you don't wish to replace your old scanner. just saying ;))

The first scan is by my (fairly new) flatbed scanner, the second one by my husband's giganto-photoscanner. It's funny how the colors vary but also how nicely the photoscanner picks up the holo sticker...guess that justifies us keeping it ^^" Also, the new scanner really captures the texture of the paper. while the old scanner gives everything a smooth look....and I still don't know how to feel about that detail ^^"

About the art itself. ...this was fun. I found my old Dr PH Martin liquid watercolors. And while making up my mind if I should keep them or not, I decided to play around with them for a little. So I did a couple of splash pieces and then drew over them. I admit, this one was a bit of a pain because the watercolors were always getting back through the posca pen ink of my makers, which I layered on top. It created some pretty cool effects on Gal's hair. But I didn't want that in her face. so I had to layer...and layer...and layer paint until everything was opaque enough.

I think it turned out pretty funky. probably try this again, soon ^^

On a different note, would you be open for more Gal-Axy themed art on patreon. I know it's still a fairly new project I'd like to give my priorities to 'Kitten', since most of you are here for this. But if the request is there, I wouldn't mind dropping stuff like this once in awhile.

Any chance you might rescan some recent pics the newer scanner didn't do justice to? Space-silver, for example.

I have an old scanner too, and I use it to scan old pictures. It does great. I bought a new one and then returned it, it sucked.

I'm all about seeing more of any of the beautiful ladies you draw

I've had to edit this comment several times, since I kept noticing subtle nuances between the two scans which made it harder to decide which was better, but the fact that your holo stickers show up with the old scanner tells me you should DEFINITELY keep it. Flipping back-and-forth between the two, it seems the newer scanner favors the red part of the spectrum (pink spots on shirt and sneakers look brighter, plus her flesh tone looks more uniform) and the blues and greens appear duller; whereas the old scanner seems to favor the blue/green part (green vertical bars, her pants, and the background look more vivid); so much so that it draws out the blue underneath her pink skin--enough that it actually becomes noticeable around her neck, upper bust, shoulders and arms, and even in her forehead, which we don't see nearly as much with the new scanner. Now, it's certainly possible you may be able to tweak this in the settings section of each scanner program to rectify this. I would still definitely keep the old scanner, since to my eyes at least, it generally seems to do a better job overall. At least you can see your shiny holo stickers, and could probably get other metallic stickers and appliqués to show up better. Newest isn't always best--I've found that out, sadly, much to my chagrin--so I'd say Mr. H definitely got his money's worth!! Just because something is old doesn't mean you throw it away. I'd keep that scanner for as long as it works; and if it stops working for some reason, hopefully it can be fixed. Besides, it's always smart to have a backup just in case. Keep it as long as you can!

Don't mind seeing anything posted that you've drawn. Anyone who doesn't like these can simply ignore them. Worst case scenario, they're out the 5 to 10 seconds it takes to open the Patreon app to see what the notification was about. If the notification explicitly states it's Gal/Axy, and they're not interested, I'm almost certain there's a way to dismiss the notification without bothering to open the app, so... let a thousand beautiful drawings be posted! ;-b As for the old scanner... if you already paid for it, and there isn't a premium on space, or some other good reason for getting rid of something that still has some utility, why even consider it? Also, if it works, if the new one fails, even an older unit is good as a backup, so always makes sense to keep it around, unless, again, there's a good reason why you can't or at least shouldn't. It's not diesel powered or something, is it? X-D

I love Gal-axy already, so I'd certainly love to see more art of it.

I see why it's called space-splash. She kinda looks like she's surfing🏄‍♀️. And yeah, I think the, I'll call it, hulk scanner, does have a bit better quality. And of course, definitely captures the holo stickers better. I do notice one looks more purple & one looks more blue. Which color were you aiming for? And I'm open for any art of any of your comics. I'd love to welcome any new ones. Still haven't seen any remy's so far. Why is that?

Def love the giant photoscanner art. It’s done the most to make the metallics pop. I love all your art and variety is the spice of life so whatever strikes your fancy sounds exciting!

Wow, SCSI, that is old. Back from a time when Evangelion was a "new" show. I love the background colors on this piece.

I remember my school having a huge printer (not scanner, I know but still) for our 3D animation portfolios…the thing was like a quarter of the length of the classroom but the prints were GORGEOUS (for 2003). Hubby definitely made an excellent choice keeping the old scanner. Bulky but amazing quality~

Its a tough call. Obviously the stickers show better on the old scanner. I like how the bacground colors came out on the old scanner, the new one is much more purple blobby. Overall, I like colors of Gal on the new scanner better, she seems a touch undersaturated on the old scanner (not that's I'd notice without the other scan). The color of her jeans seems more accurate on the new scan and her shoe looks faded on the old scanner. It's hard to tell with out the physical art, I'd say which ever is more true to the physical copy is best. As for more Gal - absolutely. Have you considered doing character polls to help decide to who to draw each month. (On the Mino Rain post, when it came up in comments, I decribed perhaps in too much detail how someone else does it). Basically let us vote and if everyone wants Mino, okay, but give everyone else a chance. Also make it so no one can win twice in row so Mino can only win every other month :p

I have no issues with more Gal. When does she get to have a bunny suit? XD

Unca Alby

I thought this was going to be for a 3D viewer!

I tried to scan the space-silver one. But sadly even the photo printer can't catch the silver effect nicely ;A; But I do have a couple sketches that I find pretty cool but didn't look right in the scan :(

Yeah, I was thinking too that a lot of the art should be tweaked afterwards digitally. But the holo stickers are so nice....I was hoping to ditch that monstrosity but guess it stays with us ^^"

Well I'd definitely welcome remy. Unless you think we get enough of that through the actual comic. Mildred's job & comicon and all that.
