Honestly, where in the world did the word salad idea at the end came from??? Because I love it and so curious as to how you even come up with it every time. I mean, is that the hardest thing to come up with or the easiest???

Philip Rauschert

Ya know? I hearken back to my teen years and yes, it really was this dramatic. It was really this over the top. It really was this fraught with misunderstandings and outrageous leaps of logic that defied all the known laws of rational discourse. So I'm feeling right at home.

(Mr. H) That was me. I felt the comic was too quick, too sparse, too short for a truly enjoyable experience. Bea.R was too overloaded to make 20+ panel entries, so I was stuck publishing 12-panel quickies that felt dry at times. So I decided to put something at the end. At first it was a quick blurb and a Spoiler. The Spoiler was just me trying to provide a release with a silly joke, hopefully enticing the reader to return. The word salad before it was supposed to be a kind of impresario screed, but morphed in "Mr. H Rants about the kids" as I found it was easier to voice myself acting like a disgusted curmudgeon. I'm shrinking those down again, because they really got carried away. I can write volumes of bullshit on a dime, free styling whatever I am imagining into some kind of wacky prose. So when the comic goes into lettering, before pencils, I come to the end of the comic (which was fully scripted) and go "OH FUCK I HAVE TO THINK OF SOMETHING ENTERTAINING AND I'M TOTALLY NOT PREPARED!!! FUCK!!!!" .... two minutes later I have decided what tack to take and just let it flow, framing a conclusion in my mind, and ramping up a logical thread to something kind of ironic or perverse or just insouciant. Then I panic again and sit at the blank SPOILER area and think "FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF-(three minutes later)-uuuuhhhhh.....". Then realize it's hopeless and I'm going to blow it. So I start thinking of sayings and kitschy catchphrases before settling on something I can mutilate into a twisted-logic version and acting like I discovered the wheel and am Prometheus handing down fire to mankind... before I cringe in regret, only hope left alive in this Pandora's box-of-a-mind. Later, I find people enthusiastically reacting, like yourself, or riffing off of my words, or parroting them as novel quotes. And I can feel vindicated for trying to lump awkward icing on a tiny cupcake of a comic. In many ways--it's the easiest, but with the hardest 5 minutes of torturous prep time being completely panic-stricken anxiety-ridden hell. Bestimmt!

Dude, that prose is hilarious, as much as I love the script/narrative and drawings, what I look most forward to is that awesome (respectfully) nonsense at the end, it pairs sooo well with teenage drama + Remy's old English way of speech. I'm sorry you got through all that stress, but man I love what you pump out. Thank you for sharing your process.

Y'know, somehow I'm not surprised to see Mildred turn yandere XD

Well, considering she's just as loopy as he is (albeit in a different way)... par for the course!
