Welp, today I learned! Kinda curious about the etymology of that as a slang term now

Spider-Cat_Gamer

Lol well I think boondocks put it best but I won't be the one to say it

DougheGoji19

If its any consolation I'd never heard that term before either.

Interesting question at the end. Betting Mino will need clarification, (yea just read a “Reader’s Digest - Increase Your Vocabulary”).

I was not aware that Calico Queen was an old western slang tern for prostitute.

Mīonikoī

I thought 'Calico Queen' because she is a Calico and a 'queen' is a female cat that is either pregnant or has given birth. Otherwise the counter to a Tom cat, is a Molly.

I tried to find something on the origins of the term, but all I could find was that it was used by cowboys of the Old West. I've heard it used in a couple of country-western songs. Calico was a very inexpensive, usually coarse, printed cloth that was usually used to make cheap, but durable and relatively attractive dresses back in the day. My guess--and this is ONLY a guess--is that prostitutes were often referred to as "queens", and prostitutes likely wore calico dresses--possibly cut and sewn up to give a provocative look to the woman in that profession wearing them; so a "queen in calico" would have been an apt description.
