Little fun fact on the side. Up to the strip in which Sam addresses Ellie (21 March)...Hubbs didn't even know her name...

I mentioned in some of the comments that Hubbs addresses male characters only by their last name. Sadly so far I only have him call Roy's. (I made a mistake and missed the opportunity of him talking to Sam in this arc :()

However, I didn't want him calling females with their last name, but I also didn't want him to use the first name. Therefore we settled on him calling woman 'Miss' or 'Misses'... I wouldn't be surprised that he also uses the term 'Lady'. My husband joked that he could addresses Charlene as 'Lady Buxton'....overly polite or not normal, I leave that up to you ;P

To me it's kinda important how Hubbs does address other characters. He's overly shy, a loner and can't really connect to other characters. I want to portray that in his behavior and also in his speech.

By calling folks by their last name he shows a certain distance to them, while using titles such as 'Miss' he's polite but still kinda distant.

If he ever uses the first name of a character (no matter what gender) than you can be certain that said character is close and dear to him.

Who do you think will get that 'first name'-honor? Sam, Sedine? Maybe Ow or is it perhaps....Gabby!? However, more interesting is how he'll get to even open up to that character in the first place.

Just wait and see, we still have a plenty of stories :)

I would go with Gabby but I bet if he calls her "Miss Gabby" she would be so happy at being "grown up" that he might continue referring to her as "Miss Gabby" just to see her smile. Has anyone seen Gabby smile?

On another note, Ellie sure looks like she's on roller skates in the first panel. That would make those knee and elbow pads more logical.

Miss Gabby does sound cute, doesn't it? It does sound like him to keep calling her that in order to make her feel better :D And don't worry, you'll see Gabby smile soon enough ;)
